something new
here i go again.
watching the movie 'something new'. which is good in some ways - asinine in others.
if you've seen this movie, i'd like to dispel this misnomer right now. i have never heard or used the term "black tax". none of the people i know use it. [not to say that some people don't refer to work as the plantation...]
but the real deal at the job? that's real. woman and race $hit.
and when she says black people don't get any days off? that's real too.
the cotillion? i guess some people are into that stuff. a bit too frou-frou for me. and fake.
but i thought they coulda got a cuter boy for her.
sanaa lathan got some muscular arms on her. i like her arms. but i can't believe she put that boy in a freakin bolero.
all-in-all: good movie. fave line?
her: "it's not a predjudice - it's a preference."
him: "sure. it's your preference to be predjudiced."
i have tried to tell people this - black & white - and they don't believe me. they're in denial about themselves, and i understand. it's uncomfortable to realize that you're racist. but it's rare to find anyone who's not. i can't think of anyone. we all have issues with race. so, realize no one is immune...and start owning your $hit.

on a completely different tack - i watch this show Murder - and it is so frustrating. people are so freaking stupid. reliably. sadly. why would you walk into a crime scene and start collecting evidence prior to the integrity of the scene being kept intact through photographs?
