Sounds Tracks

I love sound tracks. Specifically movie soundtracks. Not just the hodgepodge of songs thrown together in a movie released on c.d. either. Don't get me wrong. I do enjoy those; it's like a play list you don't have to take the time to create. But more so I love movie scores. I haven't met someone who seems to have a love of movie scores at much as I do. At least no one that talks about it. I go through phases. I think my gateway score soundtrack would have to be LOTR but than it evolved. Finding Nemo, Playing by Heart, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Casper, Ghost-busters, Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe, The Village, Memoirs of a Geisha, and of course Requiem for a Dream, I have them all. But my all time favorite is Dr. Who. You can tell the quality of a movie or a tv show by how much they invest in their soundtracks. If they just rip it off from other movies or tv shows I am immediately on guard. I think one of the reason I love them so much is it's just another version of classical music that most people are oblivious too. It comforts me to know that there are classically trained musicians who have jobs so that they can preform these scores. I know not all composers use a full orchestra, some only bring in one or two instruments and the rest are synthesized but it still makes me happy. It probably stems from my time in school. I played clarinet and a few other instruments. I gave it up after my freshman year. I still want to learn another instrument. I love playing in a group or an ensemble. There is nothing so powerful as a group of people coming together and making an experience with only music and I miss being part of something like that.
