The intruder

With Will and Orlando on their trip to take B to Wes and Aidan's house, Shy was getting in a little time with his Resident Evil videogame. He would never admit that he could be creeped out by a game, but as the sun started to set, he thought that maybe he should give up the non-zombies and put in something a little less chill-inducing. Will had said that they might spend the night in the city, and the last thing Shy wanted to do was scare himself if he had to spend the night alone on an island in an eerily quiet house. The sudden sound of Lani's sharp bark outside made Shy jump and curse himself. The old dog was probably chasing something while the other dogs stayed in the house to keep Shy company. It made Shy feel good to have all the pets around, but he still couldn't help being startled when Lani barked again.

"When did I become such a pussy?" he mumbled to himself, getting up to turn off the game console and turn on the television.

When Lani barked again, then loudly yelped, Shy didn't hesitate for a moment before heading outside. There were all sorts of critters on the island and Lani could have gotten stung or bitten by something.

Shy opened the front door, little Jake at his heels as he went outside. "Lani, boy, are you all right?" he called, walking down the path toward the dock when he didn't see Lani right away. "Boy? Are you--"

The sight of the strange man standing over Lani's body, bloody knife in hand, struck Shy as so out of sorts, he froze in his place for a split second. When what he was seeing finally registered, he turned to run back into the house in a dead panic to get the gun Orlando kept in the bedroom.

There's an intruder. Lani's dead. He stabbed Lani. Protect the house. Get the gun.

The thoughts were a desperate jumble in his head as he raced back toward the cabin. He was vaguely aware of Jake staying behind, barking and growling at the stranger. Shy wanted to call to him to get him to safety, but before he could, the sharp crack of a gunshot rang in his ears and he fell to the ground, hands over his head. He hadn't been hit, but he could hear Jake whimpering and knew that the dog had been shot. Before he had a chance to get up and run again, a hand grabbed him by the back of the neck and dragged him to his feet. Grunting as he was roughly turned around and a gun was shoved into his stomach, Shy came face to face with the intruder.

"You must be Nathan." The man smiled at him, making a shiver travel the length of Shy's spine.

"Wh-who are you?" Shy stammered. "How do you know--"

"I've been watching you guys for a while, now."

"Why? What do you want?" Shy licked his lips, his mouth painfully dry as he tried to speak. "We have money. I can get it."

Just then, Shy heard barking behind him as Benji, Wendell and Blade came tearing out of the house when they heard the trouble. The man cursed and raised his gun to aim at them, but Shy grabbed his arm and pushed against him just as he fired. Scared off, the three dogs headed for the woods. Shy's relief was short lived when he was shoved face first into a nearby tree, knocking the wind out of him and cutting his head.

"That was stupid," the intruder growled into Shy's ear. "And, no, I don't want your fucking money. What I want means a whole lot more to your boyfriends than that."

"What is it?" Shy asked, his voice cracking. He could feel blood trickling down his temple. "I'll give it to you."

The man yanked on Shy to turn him around and shoved his back to the tree. He grinned, the gesture making him look deranged. "Will you?" he murmured, sliding the gun over Shy's chest and stomach, then down lower. "Will you give it to me, Nathan?" he whispered, slowly rubbing the gun over the young man's crotch.

Shy's eyes widened and his fear made it feel as if ice was flowing through his veins. He's going to rape me, then he's going to kill me.

"Who are you? What do you want with us?" He desperately wished he didn't sound as frightened as he felt.

"Will never told you about me? I'm a little hurt." The man pushed the gun into Shy a little more, making the young man wince. "Let me introduce myself. My name's Kevin."

Shy's knees buckled when he realised who the intruder was, and he heard Kevin laugh when he had to hold him up. Hadn't Will been concerned about something like this happening? And hadn't months of hearing nothing made them all feel a sense of security that should never really have been there? He felt as if he wanted to be sick. He knew what Kevin had done to Will, how he would have killed him if Orlando hadn't shot him. And now Shy was face to face with him and had no idea how he was going to get away from him.

"I...I know about you," Shy said softly. "Will told me."

"Ah, good," Kevin nodded, pushing his body to Shy's and trailing the fingers of his free hand over the scars on the boy's face. "I bet he didn't tell you how hot it was the last time we were together, though," he whispered. "Will's such a hot lay, especially when he's acting like he doesn't want it."

Shy closed his eyes to try and block out touch and the heat of the body pressing to his. The gun hadn't been moved, so Shy knew that if he fought him he'd be shot.

"A little birdie told me it took him a long time to heal," Kevin continued. "And I barely did anything to that whore." His fingers moved down to cup Shy's face. "Imagine how much I could hurt a tight little ass like yours."

"Please..." Shy whispered, his eyes squeezed shut so tightly he was seeing white pin pricks of light behind them. "I'll give you anything you want if you just leave us alone." He hadn't meant for it to be such an open invitation. He meant money or things, not himself, but by the time he realised what he'd said, it was too late.

Kevin chuckled. "That's what I like to hear. You're still hot even with your face being so fucked up, and it's been a long time since I've gotten laid. As soon as I get you on the other boat, we'll have to get to know each other a little better." With that, Kevin moved back and took hold of Shy's arm and started walking with him.

Shy balked when he saw that Kevin was leading him toward the dock, but his attempts at a struggle were cut short before they even began when Kevin shoved him to the ground and slammed a foot onto the back of his neck.

"Jesus Christ, you're an idiot," Kevin murmured. "I have a gun and a knife, moron. At worst, I will kill you if you don't cooperate with me. Or, if I'm feeling generous, I'll just carve up that pretty face of yours so badly, it'll make those scars you've got look like nothing. What's so hard to understand about that?"

Shy struggled to speak, fighting back tears when he realised that Kevin was really going to take him away from Orlando and Will. "Why are you doing this? Why do you have to take me?"

Kevin moved his foot and reached down to grab Shy's hair, pulling on it to make him get to his feet. This time, he put the gun to Shy's back and started walking with him again.

"Orlando and Will took everything from me," he said. "I'm returning the favor. And if you try to run, I'll come back here and I will kill them both. I'll kill the rest of the pets, and I'll even track down your mother, your sweet little ex-girlfriend and that ex-priest you fucked in Florida. Do you understand?"

Nodding, Shy bit his lip and let out a shaky breath. How the hell did Kevin know all of this? Had he tapped their phone? The fact that he used to be a cop must have had something to do with it, and Shy knew that he had no choice but to cooperate for the time being. "I understand."

"Good boy. I've got a boat anchored further out. You'll love it. I hear you're quite the fisherman." Kevin sounded almost cheerful as he forced Shy onto the boat and made him sit down. "It won't be so bad."

"So...so you're just going to keep me?" Shy bit back a cry when Kevin slapped him hard across the face.

"Don't ask me any more questions, right now," he said, taking out a pair of cuffs and using them to secure Shy to the seat. "We'll have plenty of time to talk once I've gotten you out of here." He then shocked Shy by giving him a kiss on top of his head. "Now, you should say any final goodbyes to your precious little house and your precious little island. I've got to make a call."

Shy watched as Kevin took out a cell phone and dialed. After a moment, he began speaking and Shy knew he had to have gotten the answering machine at the house.

"Hey, Will. Hey, Orlando. It's Kev. Just wanted to let you know that Shy's with me and is perfectly fine. Right?" he said to Shy, then held the phone out to him. "Tell them you're fine."

"Orli, Will," Shy whimpered, "please--"

"God, do you have to sound like such a pussy?" Kevin scolded him, then got back on the phone. "Anyway, I'm taking him for a little ride and you'll get him back when I feel like it. Oh, and don't get the police involved. If you call them, I'll know, and I'll have no choice but to slit your boy's throat and send him back to you in little pieces. Will, if you really want this over quickly, you can give yourself up. That would be a fair trade, wouldn't it, Orlando? Your sweet young thing in exchange for me getting my boyfriend back?" He laughed softly and shook his head. "You boys take care. I'll be in touch."

Shy stared at him as he put away the phone. "You want Will back?"

Kevin narrowed his eyes but didn't answer the question as he started the boat and began to steer them away from the dock. "You can't help who you love," he finally said, looking a little lost in thought as he did. "Can you?"
.
Shy shook his head and closed his eyes when the boat started moving. He couldn't bear to see the island getting farther and farther away as Kevin took him from his home and the men he loved. Lowering his head, he started sobbing softly.

"Please find me," he whispered, praying that Orlando and Will would hear him somehow.
