Crafty Crafty Christmas

Dec 17, 2015 22:12

Christmas is a week away and I'm still not totally finished with the crafting I want to do or the crafting I still need to do. Namely my brother's Christmas present that I have to start tomorrow or it won't be done in time.

The good news is that tonight I boxed up the gifts from my friends out of state and they will be put in the mail tomorrow. Nearly a week later than I had planned, but it's done! Of course, it's not 100% perfect... I just realized that I forgot part of the gifts... oh well...they were just extra goodies and nothing vital. I'd post pictures of it all but it's possible they might stumble upon this post and I don't want to spoil anything. Nevermind the fact that I forgot to take a photo of one of the finished gifts *facepalm*

Have no fear, however, I do have plenty of photos that I can share with you all!!

Shall we start with the card that I made my sister? It's the only Christmas card that I mailed (save for the two in the packages going out tomorrow). Anyway, this is the card I wanted to make her last March for her 21st birthday but the dies to make it didn't exist. But I found them in November and I bought them. So I made her this card for Christmas. And bonus! the goodies inside the clear part of the margarita glass move around!

Speaking of my sister, she doesn't come to livejournal (and I wouldn't give her my username if she gave me a million dollars) so I'm going to show  you guys what I made for her. Two canvas art pieces. I'm not entirely done with the one on the left (it needs glitter) and I'm not sure I'm 100% happy with the wording on the second one. But we shall see how I feel tomorrow and if the off centerness of it all drives me crazy.

A couple of the other craft projects I've tackled this year are making cone trees and making my own ornaments.

So let's start with the trees. There are still a few more I want to make, but I've loved the ones I've come up with. I actually moved my nailpolish racks down a level on my shelf so I could display the trees by my computer... but then mom needed some additional decor. So a few of them are by the front door and others are on the antique sewing machine. Festive!

Most of the trees are made from different types of yarn, but the little white one and the little silver one that is just in view by the big tree on the bottom right, are made from ribbons/garlands. And the center photo on the bottom with the white and silver dots are little styrofoam balls that I got at the craft store a few weeks ago because they jumped into my cart and said 'do something with me' and I couldn't say no....

And now to the Christmas ornaments because who ever has enough of those, am I right? My friend pointed out last year that my tree was seriously lacking in Harry Potter decor and I agreed. So thankfully Hot Topic released this Bling Bag Figure Key Chain set and I've used several of those items to make ornaments (see middle photo on the left of the left photo and all three images on the right photo). The Felix Felicis bottle looked like a giant lightbulb, so I printed out a label for it. Some of the small charms came from Hot Topic as well and the rest I bought on Amazon. All of these were either keychains, necklaces or cell phone charms when I started. Well except the two in the upper left hand corner of the left photo...

I made these ones myself based on an idea I saw on Pinterest. I got the plastic bulbs at the craft store and bought printable vinyl on Amazon. I printed out the glasses and scar then had to hand cut them out. But then I filled them with rolled pieces of the Harry Potter books. Not the actual books mind you, I wouldn't do that to one of them, but I screen captured a few pages from my computer's Kindle app and then printed them out on parchment paper.

Since I should be in bed, I'm going to wrap this up by showing off some new photos of my nerdy- girl- sports-fan tree! I've added a lot of Harry Potter ornaments since my last photo. I've also added some additional Dr Who and Marvel ornaments and football helmets for my three favorite NCAA teams.  (Ignore the disaster in the photo below...)

And some closeups of different sections of the tree. It's in a weird place so I can't get to some of them (thinking I need a lazy susan for it next year), but I still have lots of places for ornaments!

Alrighty, it's time for bed now... I'm exhausted!
