Smackdowns for your delight and edification

Both via cynthia1960:

An open letter from yuki_onna and one from Hal Duncan in response to John C Wright and others who have been letting their assholes show.

My favourite line from yuki_onna:
It's a pretty simple equation, really. Limited lifespan divided by number of books it's possible to consume due to vagaries of money and mortality equals I am not buying your books if you behave like a fuckmuppet in public.

My favourite line from Mr. Duncan:
Let me repeat that, Mr Wright. People do actually disagree with you. Not because they're faggots who like the homosex. Not because they've been cowed into submission by the faggots who like the homosex. But because they see the faggots who like the homosex as human beings deserving of empathy, see the abjection of them as profoundly unethical -- stupid and cruel to the point of socially dysfunctional.

Yes, yes, I'm using "line" very loosely indeed. That's because Hal Duncan, rather like Dickens or Dumas, can take half a page before he wanders eventually and with the surprise of the by-then unexpected in the general direction of the point. However, in this particular letter he does so to hilarious effect; more Dumas than Dickens.

(In case anyone's interested, Valente's smackdown is about 880 words long. Duncan's is about 5400 words long.
Just sayin'.)

ETA: Having actually read to the end of Duncan's letter (by selecting all in defense against the background) I have to say for the first time ever, I don't think he wasted a word. Go him.

bigotry, yay, smackdown
