I doubt I'll have spoons to make a con post beyond yesterday's "I survived", so let me start by saying that the part of the con I experienced was mostly awesome, and the allergens (there were many) were survivable on extra antihistamines & extra steroids.
And, speaking personally -- people warned me away from the WFC creeper issue to save my spoons, and the hotel's utterly horrific accessibility issues meant I got more time with
mariness, which was awesome for *me*; and when I wasn't wet-rag-exhausted I enjoyed myself thoroughly. But the fact that it was fine for me does not make me think these things were in any way acceptable. We need to deal with these things. They are not acceptable.
For lack of spoons, I'm mostly just posting links.
1)
The creeper: allowance of sexual harassment at cons. Jaym Gates' post has lots of links, and also a call to positive action. I wish I had the spoons to help. But lacking that, signal boost.
2)
The Town and Country Resort Hotel, San Diego, has APPALLINGLY BAD disability issues. They claim to be accessible. They are NOT. It is NOT OKAY to hold cons there, San Diego concom folks. It's just not. Cheap is not a valid excuse here; if it's too expensive elsewhere in hotel circle, fine, you need to find a place outside hotel circle. Right now, SD cons are allowing a hostile environment for disabled people. (This place is also a hostile environment for people with allergies, but I consider this secondary).
