On Apartments and Stupidity

I never thought how utterly nerve-wracking it could be to try and find an apartment. You search for a place that looks good, make sure that it actually IS good, fill out a form, pay some money... This does not make apparent the immense challenge that enters this process when you're going through it 1000 miles away from the place you're planning to be. I really wonder why the search for shelter, one of the basic human needs, has not advanced technologically to the same point as, say, obtaining (legally or otherwise) movies and music. In this "Internet age" as some call it, I should be able to fill out an application for an apartment online. I should be able to just about walk through an apartment online. Instead I'm left to the mercy of cheap one-time-use cameras and the all-too-restricting hours of the local post office. Add in my own stupidity of waiting too long to begin the search for housing, and we have here the perfect recipe for unimagined amounts of stress. I've managed to get through a good portion of the trouble already. Found a great place. Got to see the specific apartment I'd be in. And (*sigh of relief*) the application for the place was approved. My next task is to get them a security deposit ASAP. My last possibility for that (USPS Express) will be expiring in an hour while I sit here waiting for the property manager to get back to me about whether they can get me a lease to send out signed with the deposit. What he apparently fails to realize is that unless he gets back to me in maybe the next ten minutes, there will be no way to get them the lease OR the deposit until next week. Hell, if they're expecting the lease at all they're just screwed. I did mention that I'm hoping to move in next Wednesday, right? Meaning that I would be on the road Monday and/or Tuesday, the next two days when I would be able to send out the deposit and lease. I guess this ends my rant for now. I have lots of packing to do. With some luck willpower I may actually start it.
