Heather, Shonna and I went to see P Stump thislast weekend! Well, Heather and Shonna got him Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I missed the Houston show because my aunts are lame. On Sunday, we were joined by Clare, Katie, Rachel and Jenny and a great time was had by all.
So, Dallas. The show was amazing and I don't even have words to describe the kind of energy his show has and how I could watch him perform every single night and lol I got to sing "Ah, ah!" into his mic during "This City." Solo!Patrick is a different beast entirely from Fall Out Boy!Patrick. He kind of has to be but I'm so used to him stepping back and letting someone else have the spotlight that I guess I expected him to not be as outgoing and happy and as present as he was. We got a glimpse of this Patrick on the BND II tour when he was more outspoken but this is him ramped up to about eleven. And it's awesome. Could seriously watch every night.
We decided to hang out and "meet" him after the show. We intentionally waited until the crowd had died down before we went up to him. He is so wee! And precious! I don't even know how he exists. I think I took
a picture with him first and I remember being surprised that instead of just putting his arm around my shoulder or whatever, he actually pulled me to him. And then Shonna and Heather took pictures. I guess we talked to him some but I honestly have no idea what was said. As we were kind of wrapping it up, I went up to him and was like, "So this is kind of awkward to ask but can I have a hug?" and almost before I could finish the sentence, he reached out, grabbed me and pulled me to him. Like, full on pressed his body to mine. For a good five seconds. Which doesn't sound like a lot but time it and think about having Patrick Stump's body plastered to yours for all that time. It was A-MA-ZING. I'm pretty sure I said, "... Wow," right into his ear. And then we broke apart and I was all giggly and ridiculous and was like, "Ok, well, that made my night." And then I probably babbled some more and we said good night and we'd see him the next day and then we left. But then I checked twitter when we got in the car and saw that Julia had linked me to these
two gifs and so we flailed about that on the way to the hotel. Someone is writing that Brendon/Dallon/Sarah/Breezy, right?)
We all woke up ridiculously early on Sunday morning but we didn't leave the city until sometime after 10. Made it to Austin around 1:30. It was hotter than hell so we decided to go eat and drink at Stubb's. Only they were having a gospel brunch until 2:30 so we schlepped our way to Starbucks and took advantage of their AC for about an hour or so. Went back to Stubb's and added our name to the wait list for a table. Weren't there but for a minute or two when we saw Patrick come up from downstairs and walk into the restaurant. We are all twelve and ridiculous so we giggled a lot. Idk what he did in there but he came back out and put his name on the wait list as well then went and stood not too far from us. Like, close enough that he probably could have heard our conversation if he'd bothered to try. Which I hope he didn't because we were even gigglier and ridiculouser by then. We wanted to go up and say hi but he was focused pretty intently on his phone and didn't look up or make eye contact with anyone so it was awkward so we walked a little bit away to make it less awkward and then he was taken back to his table. I know I've already said it but my gosh, he's tiny. And precious. And hot. We finally got seated and thankfully, we weren't anywhere near him. We ate and boozed for a few hours to pass the time. And then we stood in 113 degree weather for the last two and a half hours before doors. It doesn't seem like it was that bad in retrospect but we were pretty miserable.
The show was incredible, of course. This is such an excellent bill of artists. Every single one is entertaining in their own way. I wouldn't necessarily go to a show to see any of them specifically (except maybe Wynter Gordon) but I would be excited if they opened for another act I was seeing. I had a MUCH better view of Patrick during his drum medley. I'm always impressed when drummers sing because drumming itself is a lot of body parts to coordinate and to have to think of lyrics and pitch and breath control on top of that is very daunting but Patrick does it wonderfully.
Heather, Shonna and I all scored set lists from this show - I had to play rock, paper, scissors to get mine - so we decided to get everyone to sign it. That was so much fun. Every single person on this tour is friendly and personable and seems delighted to talk to you. We got pictures with almost everyone (Rockie Fresh and his drummer, Nate, had already left) and bummed around until the crowd around Patrick died down.
So he's talking to the person in front of us and we've kind of fanned out into this semi-circle to ogle him as he speaks. The guy left and then there was this pause as we all just kind of stood there for a second and then Patrick turned to me and pulled me into another hug! Not as long as the night before but just as surprising. I'm sure we talked but I don't remember anything he said until after Shonna and I had gotten
pictures and I babbled at him about how amazing he is as a solo artist and I'm so happy we finally have a release date for Soul Punk and he talked to us about how Soul Punk has been finished for a while (about a year?) and how once a record label gets a record, they wait three months to announce a release date (or something like that?) and since he'd had two release dates, that was two three month waiting periods plus the time before he was signed and how he started to gain weight back because all he did was sit on his couch and watch TV. And then we went to leave and he and I did this weird kind of shuffle where he thought we were gonna take a picture and I thought he was trying to hug me and then we switched and then we switched again and then we finally got it together and hugged again and then Shonna hugged him and Heather got a hug which is a big deal because she's very touchee no likee and then we left.
We jammed Cobra Starship all the way home and then I couldn't sleep when I finally got into bed and I had to be up at 5:30 so I was a real pleasure to work with on Monday but whatever, it was totally worth it. I would like to kidnap Patrick and keep him in my pocket. Which is not a new thought but it's certainly back with a vengeance. Can't wait to see him on his next tour!
