So. This past weekend I went to see the Discos. Where do I even begin. I'm sure you don't care about the minutae of the trip; I don't even care to type it up and I was there. So let's just talk about the meet and greets.
If you read
patd, you know that the venue doesn't open up the parking lot until an hour before doors. A bit of a problem for us, since doors were at 5:30, which meant the gates would open at 4:30 but our meet-and-greet was scheduled for 3:30. But the guy guarding the gate was super cool and kept us as informed as possible. Even took Shonna's mng email to give to his bosses for their security meeting. We ended up being let in around 3:15 but were told that we'd have to drive back out and line up with everyone else to drive in at the "official" time of 4:30 so our plan was to stretch the mng out as long as possible.
So we drive in and we spot Zack standing out in front of the venue. We get directed on where to park and hike across the parking lot to him. He chit chatted with us for a minute then checked us all of on the list. He made a joke about my last name, which, if you know it, you can probably guess the gist of. He talked about how most of our group was there and how at other mng's there were several people missing. He was all, "Why would you sign up for a mng and then not show?" We were only missing one person who had a friend who was also in the mng who called her to check her eta. She said she was close so Zack decided to tell us how things were gonna go while we waited for her. He said that this was going to be different that other mng's, that instead of the guys being behind a table, he was gonna line us all up and bring the guys out and start at opposite ends and they would go down the line and sign stuff and talk to everybody. I don't recall his exact words but he referred to them as Brencer. Twice. And seemed very proud of himself, like he'd thought of something new and shiny. Oh, Zack.
He talked about how we would be going back stage and would see lots of buses and trailers and that this venue, even though they're in a new one every day, is their home so please respect it. No running off to take pictures with whoever else we might see backstage, no sneaking on to any buses. It wasn't nearly as long as the speeches he gave on RBL or HCT.
So he checked back in with the friend of the late girl. Turns out she'd gone to the wrong gate. He was sympathetic but the show must go on. Said he'd get something signed for her, lined us up and escorted us backstage. We passed Andy tossing a football back and forth with some people. Apparently, we also passed Patrick but I guess I was wearing my Spencer blinders because I didn't see him, even after Shonna pointed him out.
So we're up there and we get situated and Zack leaves to get the guys and I swear he called out, "Don't be creepy!" over his shoulder as he left.
fiddleyoumust posted some mng pics

eckerlilas posted some

irisgirl12000 has posted hers by now but I am not allowing myself to check LJ (again) until I've finished this.
So Brendon started on our end of the line. He was probably cute and charming to the three girls and their father that he was talking to but I was too busy staring creepily at Spencer to notice. HE IS BEAUTIFUL. And a lot thinner than he photographs. And beatiful. And his hair really is that shiny. And he really does stand like that a lot. And he's very smiley. At this point, Brendon was in front of me. I kind of stared blankly at him and he kind of stared blankly at me and then he asked my name and held out his hand for me to shake. I told him as we shook and he said, "Hi, I'm Brendon." And I went, "... I know." He looked down at the floor and kind of stammered that you never know, sometimes people don't know. And then we were awkward and I held out my ticket for him to sign and he signed it and smiled at me again and then moved on to Heather. Or no, wait. There was a random girl who was between me and Heather and while he was signing the second thing for her, I (like to think I) made up for my fail by complimenting his t-shirt. He smiled for real then and said that his girlfriend gave it to him, that she surprised him and joined him on tour. Julia and I just sort of ♥__♥ at each other for a second so I really have no idea how he left.
Heather asked Spencer a question about one of his twitters and he talked to her for a minute about ... some classic rock artists that I've already forgotten. The girl between us asked him about the footsteps she could hear during "Do You Know What I'm Seeing?" and Spencer got really excited and told her that it was him walking back and forth with two microphones on the floor. They'd noticed the sound when he was walking around that day and thought it was cool so they recorded it.
And then he got to me and he signed my ticket and I asked him what they were going to do after the tour. Honestly, I have no idea what he said the first minute or so because I was too busy going OMG HE'S SO PRETTY OMG HE'S SO PRETTY OMG HE'S SO PRETTY over and over in my head. He said that they would be doing the randoms how here and there but no tours until the album comes out. One of us asked when that would be and he said they had about another month of writing before they go into the studio.
And then I was all, "So I was told to ask you this [LIE] but what kind of conditioner do you use?" And he smiled and said that he doesn't really use it, he just uses whatever's in the hotel, sometimes they have some good stuff.
He asked where we were from and we all said Texas and I think there was something else and then I was babbling about how we'd gotten the shaft from them and FOB with cancelled shows. He was all, "Oh really?" so we told him about RBL being cancelled and Houston FOB getting rained on and how we came to Chicago because this was the tour line up we wanted to see. Spencer said that they'd love to do the whole tour and would stay longer if they could.
And then I was all, "Just come tour Texas." And then he said, "The next time we tour, we will definitely come to Texas. Let's pinky swear on it." And then he held up his pinky and I'm sure I just stared at him for a moment because WHAT but then my hand shot up so fast, I'm surprised I didn't get whiplash of the arm or something and I wrapped my little pinky around his and we pinky swore.
Now I don't know what my face looked like at that moment, but I'm pretty sure it was something like *_____________________* ♥___________♥
Pretty sure I didn't have anything else to say just then mostly because my mind was full of !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Spencer moved on to Julia who had one of his drum sticks to sign, the one that proves how much I love her because I caught it at the end of RBL Austin and gave it to her because I love her. He asked her where she got it from and struggled to sign it. Mentioned how hard it was and that he should just trace over the stencil that's already printed on it. Said something about how he's always nervous that he's gonna bean somebody in the head when he throws them out into the crowd and Julia and I were all. "Lol, we would not mind!"
So then Spencer went on the the last group and Brendon was talking to some random guys. I really have no idea what they may have said because I was still ♥__♥'ing at Spencer but Julia was much more sensible that I am and has it all in her
recap.
Next was individual pictures and I as I walked up, Spencer looked at me and went, "Yeah, Houston!" Cue me internally :DDDDDDing. There may have been more talking but by then I had planted myself between them and I had my arms around them and they had their arms around me and just then I probably couldn't have told you my name if you'd asked me.
And then we took group shots. As we were doing the mng, Zack was finding out which one of us had the "best" camera. The winner was 14.7 megapixels and the person posted the pictures today. Guess who hotfooted her happy little ass a spot right next to Spencer?
If you notice, his arm is around my back and reaching on to Julia. We were probably transparent in our adoration of him but clearly it didn't creep him out so WIN.
And here is an extremely large picture of Spencer smiling at me. I love Julia and her creeper pictures so fucking much.
Heather asked him if their next tour would be playing in smaller venues. I don't know if he answered or what he said if he did but we requested that if they did such a thing, they play Warehouse Live in Houston, not House of Blues. His response was "Done and done." And then Heather won my undying love FOREVER when she was all, "Y'know, I think that rates another pinky swear." SO WE DID.
And then it was time to go so they passed high fives all around and then Zack walked the guys to wherever they went, which wasn't far because he was back in about 30 seconds. Then Zack walked us back past the buses out to where he'd originally gathered us and let us go on our way. We didn't have to leave the parking lot which meant that we were the first ones in line at the gate. SCORE.
I am dying to tell y'all about the show and then AK and then Minneapolis but it's already 10:30 and I clearly like to babble when I talk about these guys so it'll have to wait til tomorrow. Good night!
OH GOD, SOMEONE COME CLEAN OUT MY INBOX FOR ME. :((((
