i need to put my clothes in the dryer

i was driving home from orlando this weekend in basic silence. staying in one lane, chain smoking, and my mind wandered to thinking about my friends. it feels good when people are really happy to see you. when they say your presence made their night.

i'm not one for mushy shit, but i value my friends so intensely. friends you've grown with. the friends who make you laugh so hard it's painful. the friends that get a kick out of making weird obnoxious voices with you for hours. the friends you have nostalgia with. the friends you make music with. the friends who want to stay up and watch the sun rise just because you might as well. the friends who will share that last beer, down the last of that bottle, tap that keg with you. the friends that will sneak up on roofs with you. the friends who only have a dollar to their name, and they are more than willing to split it with you. the friends who typically see you as one of the guys, but when it comes down to it, they protect you as if you their little sister. the friends that drunk dial you at 6 in the morning asking you to bail them out of jail... as a joke. the friends that you feel good just shooting the shit with. the friends that let you crash on their couch for a few hours before you go home to your mom after a long night. the friends who call each other because songs on the radio reminds them of each other. the friends you slow dance with to the everly brothers. the friends who you haven't known for long, but couldn't be more eager to know longer. the friends who will keep an eye on you when you're getting a little crazy. the friends who are getting crazy with you, but still managing to keep that watchful eye. the friends who level you. the friends who trust you with secrets and ask for advice. the friends who genuinely consider your opinions. the friends who feel sick to their stomach when they wrong you, and the ones that wouldn't even dream of it. the friends who are really more than friends. the friends who know your biggest flaws, but love you just the same. the friends who are comfortable enough to make lighthearted jokes about those flaws, and why not? the friends who are the first to scold you when you're doing something wrong, but also the first to praise you when you do something right. the friends who assure you of your worth. the friends who aren't afraid to say "i love you", and really mean that. i don't know about anyone else, but i couldn't ask for anything better.

accepting how much further life is bound to take us.
and realizing what a long strange trip it's been.

not sure where i was going with this, but maybe it will serve as a reminder to myself to let them know how much they are appreciated.
