Summary: correspondence between Remus and Sirius after Sirius fled Hogwarts, before his return to Grimmauld Place
Dear Padfoot,
Sorry we didn’t get time for a proper catch-up.
Your godson is a compassionate fellow, intent on shouldering the blame for your current predicament. I know it’s my fault. If I had trusted my heart and ignored my pride, you would not have been taken away in the first place.
Not sure you’d want to tell him about us, or whether you can remember what remain the happiest days of my life, so I kept it to myself.
Once again: I am sorry, my love.
Remus looked at the leaf, upon which Sirius had written his reply.
I recalled loving you on a daily basis.
Dementors never took that from me because it was not a happy thought.
Something preserved deepest inside Remus, what he’d long considered to be the best of him, broke. He followed the convention set by Sirius and omitted names on his next correspondence.
Why not?
But he never sent it.
