Oh, and major abuse of italics and the word "courage".
Title/cut text from "Wish I Stayed" by Ellie Goulding.
Courage.
The text arrives between each period, filling the cracks in Kurt’s heart, at least for a moment; then Karofsky’s fists slam him into the lockers and he feels it shatter once more.
Courage.
It’s the first thought in his mind as he follows Karofsky into the locker room and the last when the Neanderthal kisses him, and all that’s left is it should have been Blaine.
Courage.
Kurt’s not sure if it’s courage or something else entirely- or maybe a bit of both- that brings him between Blaine and Karofsky, pushing the bully away without a thought for himself. All he knows is he wants Karofsky’s hands, eyes, lips nowhere near Blaine. This has to stop.
Courage.
He’s trying, but things have (somehow) managed to get worse, and even his strength isn’t limitless. Cowardice be damned; when he steps through Dalton’s doors for a second time- and into Blaine’s arms- he knows he’s made the right choice.
Courage.
A little bit brave and a little bit reckless, he pulls on whatever’s closest- and that, he thinks, that speaks for itself- and makes his way outside to meet Blaine down the street, heart pounding with the rush of adrenaline…and anticipation.
Courage.
Lying beside Blaine in the grass, fingers laced together as they stare up at the stars, the word runs through his mind, relentless, and it’s so much easier said than done, but then Blaine’s turning toward him and his breath catches in his throat and he’s gone. He can feel the older boy’s breath hot on his lips, and he can’t move; he’s never wanted anything so much in his life, and he hears it once more- the echo of text messages, graffiti letters and that voice that’s whispering his name under the midnight sky-
Courage.
And when their lips meet, it’s soft and slow and perfect, Kurt’s fingers hesitant on Blaine’s hips and Blaine sighing into his mouth like everything’s fallen into place: my missing puzzle piece, I’m complete. “That should have been your first kiss,” Blaine murmurs when they part, fingers curled carefully beneath Kurt’s chin as he pulls him in for another, always sweeter than the last.
Courage.
Here, now, Kurt truly understands what Blaine’s seen from the start. He’s invincible, if only in this moment beneath the dark, clear sky, feeling the other boy’s heart thrum in time with his own and watching his eyes sparkle brighter than the stars above. He can do anything, be anyone he wants; but all he wants is here in his arms, and despite the hell he’s suffered, there’s not a thing that he would change.
