Daniel's Freakshow Fanclub
Also, I suck. I'm supposed to be working on my fic, but instead I'm... just screwing around on the computer. No good reason.
Overall, I liked the ep and it was better than I anticipated. Which isn't saying much, actually, but it was okay. I liked that they finally put Vala with Cam rather than Daniel. Nice switch up and not reminiscent of Farscape. I would have hated that. I was able to take this on its own.
Also the scene where Vala tells Cam's parents about all the sex all the time was hysterical. Also the part where Cam's mom tells him she was a child of the 60's and he and Vala can sleep together. Wah! Fabluous!
Okay, on to Daniel's Freakshow Fan Club. I really liked that whole thing. I know a lot of people think Daniel was being all shy and coy, but really? No, he was freaked out. Because he knows that strangers who come up to you and tell you straight out that you're sexy/cute/attractive are *always* bad news. Seriously, they are.
Trust me, I know this as I have my very own Freakshow Fan Club. And I am NOT 'All that and a bag of chips'. No. I think it's more that I don't have that thousand-yard stare that says, "Talk to me and I will rip your liver out." I'm generally pleasant and approachable-looking and smile at people. Hey, I live in Denver and we're nice. Freakshow types figure this means I want them to kiss me or hear all about their salsa dancing fetish. That pole-axed look on my face *really* means, "OMG! How can I get away without making a huge scene! Eeeek!" But I digress.
Vala used the whole "But you're so attractive," line on him in Prometheus Unbound and then proceeded to steal the ship and beat the crap out of him. So while I found the self-conscious little smile and refusal extremely charming, I know what it really meant. Him looking over his shoulder as if he was wondering if she was really speaking to him? Was really a check for the exits. Great reflexes too! Hope he didn't need that book for something important.
Attractive alien women *really* need to come up with better lines. If this woman had come on to him just a bit less strongly, nixed the whole 'you're attractive, so let's go off alone together' thing, substituting perhaps, "How about a nice cup of coffee and tell me all about your research", it might actually have worked. Well, and a bit less leather. Dead giveaway that you're bad news in Daniel's World. Wait until the second date to break out the leather clothes ;) If you get to a third date, you might be able to convince *him* to wear leather!
And really, that's about as deep as I get for this ep. Fun, enjoyable romp.
