Dear Michael Ondaatje,
You really can't write a book in the style of a jazz song. You can't syncopate words. Or put movements or staccatos or slurs in writing. It's very cool you tried and all, but not for an English Essay. Really. I mean, dreams are one thing- but jazz?
I'm tired of your windows and water and iguanas and rain and light and bugs. Especially the light, though. You're stuck up with your symbols.
Anyways, it would be nice if I didn't have to edit my essay now, because it's really tricky and confusing. And it's worth 30% of my mark. And i would probably feel better (and smarter) if you stopped explaining symbols in your book by characters saying "wow, look at that puppet- it's such a symbol for the MARGINALIZED PEOPLE THEME THEME THEME SYMBOL". "Why yes PAtrick, and isn't it a coincidence that you're life is SYMBOLIZED by that IGUANA SYMBOL your lover gave you?"
So I just thought I would write you this letter. And inform you that I don't want to do a biography on you as you like your privacy and I have a book about you, but all their going on is you FICTIONAL BIOGRAPHY... Yeah. You go run with your family, and I'll write an essay.
Sincerely,
Charlee.
P.S. I understand that you were emotionally changed by never really knowing your dad and all, so that's why you fragment your character's truths. But really, my english teacher isn't letting me fragment my essay so you sohuld just suck it up and be happier.
