Entry 19 [Locked, but hackable]

Fuck. Just ... fuck!

I let him get away. I had him right there and I could have stopped the Lizard, but I just wasn't strong enough, and now he's escaped, back into the sewers. His strength was terrifying. Sustained three broken ribs (a rough estimate, judging from the dull ache in my side) and a nasty bite on my left shoulder. Jesus, I can feel the bacteria incubating already. Drowned the wound in alcohol and iodine, so maybe I won't die of gangrene poisoning. Good thing my webfluid makes an excellent makeshift, water-proof bandage.

But you wanna know the worst part about all of this? It wasn't the fact that the Lizard can crush my skull like an egg with those jaws, or the fact that he can climb walls like I can, or the ability to whip his tail in speeds of excess of 100mph (yeah, I was having flashbacks to my fight with Doc Ock when I got hit). No, the scariest thing is realizing that the Lizard is not merely a beast: he possesses Connors' intelligence ... and his voice. I heard him speak to me, just before he slipped back into the sewers and made his escape:

"Don't follow me. If you interfere in my plans again, I won't hesitate to kill you."

His voice ... it was Connors' voice, and yet ... it wasn't. Deeper, guttural, savage. So cold and dispassionate, without any humanity.

And what sort of diabolical scheme is he planning? Is it somehow linked to the missing people and the neogenic recombinator?

I have to go back there tonight. Even though I'm hurt, I can't wait around and tend to my wounds (I can heal fast, but not that fast). Connors is slipping ever deeper into his reptilian persona, and time is running out for him. If I don't reverse the transformation soon ... he'll remain a heartless beast forever.

dr. curt connors, bad days, the lizard
