Shoes. Shoes. Shoes. Oh my god shoes.

For Halloween this year, I was Kelly. It was actually kind of a lame costume, as nobody knew who I was (in the end I would just say "your mum"; it got too hard trying to explain the shoes thing).

Anyway, the point is, I wrote an article about shoes for my student paper. It was never included, which I'm supposing is for culturally sensitive reasons (I detailed quite vividly the traditional Chinese practice of foot-binding).

I first learnt about foot-binding in the book Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, which I cannot now remember if it's any good or not. Foot-binding is definitely not good. It appears in The Ten Most Horrible Traditions in Human Civilisation, so it's an internet fact.

Fair enough. We still wear adorable devices of torture. But when ladies start actually getting plastic surgery on their tootsies, I raise an eyebrow. Why do you need to have part of your toe removed to wear some shoes? Why do you need to get your toes aligned? What does that even mean? According to Scarlet Magazine, women are also getting liposuction of the ankle and botox injected into the balls of their feet.

Oh humanity. You disgust me :D
