[No answer from the communicator, just some coughing under the pile of debris.]

[And Knuckles is just going to keep talking assuming that Mello is out cold and hoping to wake him up. At the very least he might be able to hear his own voice coming from mello's communicator in the rubble.]

People are coming to dig you out. Just try to hold on until we get there...

[Mello's not unconscious, but he is concussed and in quite a good deal of pain and a bit disoriented, too.]

Shit ... where am I? [His voice isn't loud, but it's there, buried underneath bits of former building.]

[Knuckles thought he heard that from the rubble as well as the communicator just then...]

Mello. [He's too out of it for his usual caginess and abridged aliases.] Who are you?

[Yeah, he definitely heard him that time.]

Mello, right. I'm Knuckles, from apartment one ten.

I should be there pretty soon.

[Mello should be able to hear rubble moving as Knuckles tunnels towards him now.]

[WELL. You said to keep talking, so ... ]

Knuckles. Used to know a guy named Knuckles. You're not him, right?

Heh, Not if he was human.

[If Mello can see where the front door of the apartment should be able to see Knuckles emerging from the rubble into what's left of the room. He pauses as he actually sees Mello in the flesh...he looked even worse than he was expecting.]

Mello?

[la la la, maybe rambling a little - concussions sure are great]

Didn't think so. Guy seriously hated me. And he's been dead for a while now.

[Mello could probably see, if he didn't have his eyes squeezed shut to keep out the blood and the dust and the pain, but as it is, he does hear someone else in the room.]

It's me, Knuckles.

[Knuckles forces himself to walk over to the man, staring was worse than useless after all.]

And knowing this place, the Knuckles you know could still show up. I'm just going to call some extra help to get you to the hospital and then I'm going to start shifting some of this okay?

[Yeah, OK, maybe arguing isn't such a good idea right now; everything hurts too much. Obviously Mello does need medical attention, he's just. Paranoid and stubborn about it.]

Get me out first. I can get myself to the hospital.

[Not that he actually intends to do that, but.]

[Knuckles puts the communicator aside...for now and starts moving some of the rubble.]

Let's see if you can even walk once we get all this off you.

...If you don't like the hospital the landlord could treat you instead?

I've been through worse.

[Indeed, as Knuckles removes more of the building pieces covering Mello, he might notice (among the blood) the heavy burn scars on the left side of Mello's face and neck. It's not necessarily the truth, however - Mello's suffered some serious internal injuries, thanks to being crushed under bits of cement and heavy stone.]

Doesn't mean you can't make it a little eraser on yourself this time around.

[Knuckles is still moving rubble, he's concentrating on getting as much off the man's chest as he can first of all. Mello should be able to move a bit now.]

Especially with how much blood I can see.

Got cracked on the head pretty good, I think. Head wounds tend to bleed a little more.

[He'll be shifting a little under the debris, attempting to pull himself out. He doesn't realize it at first - everything hurts - but his left arm's broken. That fact becomes quiet clear when Mello puts a little weight on it, then abruptly draws back, hissing through his teeth.]
