New bellydance costume

I think I'm in the bonding process with my new bellydance costume and making it really mine. It's a beautiful Hanan bra and belt set in irredescent sage with copper, green and gold beading. Saqra, one of the teachers, found it for me at Rakkasah East. She had gotten in early and bought up most of the DD's for her students at home. When I asked the vendors for DD's they all said "Saqra's got them." haha! So I gave her puppy dog eyes and she sold me the Hanan for the price she bought if for. She's so nice. The design is called "Appetite for Seduction" and it's listed on the Dahlal reciept as HA09-248BB, although unfortunately there's no picture of it on their website.

So now I'm altering the costume to fit me, and it looks like something sparkly has exploded in my living room. The bra was easy - just some adjustments to the location of hooks. The back part of the belt is perfect as it is, and fits my rather convex booty like a glove. However, the front part of the belt was about 7 inches two short, which is unusual cause typically it will be as long as the back part of the belt. So I bought some matching sage chiffon fabric and used heavy interfacing to extended the front on the sides, and then I bought similar beading to fill in the decoration. By the end of last night I had removed the lining, added my extentions, beaded the top and bottom edges of the extensions, and removed all the beaded fringe and swags. I'll need to replace them slightly more spread out so that the new sections blend in. Then I need to fill in the extensions with matching beading, attach a new lining, and replace the hooks on the belt, and voila - a well fitted costume. Yay!

And then... I'll get started on a skirt. I bought some beautiful copper satin, and I have plenty of irredescent sage chiffon left over, so I was thinking about making a 3 panel copper satin circle skirt where the front panel is open on either side (instead of seams), and in each of the slits I'll insert a chiffon panel, layered behind the satin. That will give the sexy hint of leg while keeping things on the modest side, and it will really tie in the color of the bra and belt background. And then I though I might make some arm bands with sage chiffon drapes. To bead or not to bead the arm bands, that is the questions... :D
