This started out as a fandomhigh-related post about how I'm going to play Sky, but as things tend to do inside my head, it blossomed into something a LOT bigger. So bear with me, this will have a point.
I wouldn't say Sky's so much been an ass as that he really rubs Z the wrong way. Z kind of has it harder in this version than in canon, in that she doesn't have Jack around for support and brotherliness, so she's a little more sensitive.
Gotcha. Yeah, not having Jack around would do that to her- Z adapted to life at SPD pretty easily, but not having Jack around would probably make it a lot harder for her, especially if he was in a bitty confinement card and not just in a jail cell for a few hours before changing his mind. *g* Indeed, knowing that Jack was likely going to be there anyway was probably a big booster for her.
Anyway, Sky's this huge guy and he like, never uses his size. He doesn't try to make himself smaller or anything, but if he really wanted to be a jackass, he could completely physically dominate everybody around him with the exception of Cruger.
Oh, definitely. Sky's is a big fella- 6 feet tall or more easily. I have a few pics of all of the Rangers standing together, and Sky is at least 3-4 inches taller than Bridge, who's next tallest (and Matt's 5 foot 8, I think he said on his Website). He's easily a foot taller than Syd, who's the shortest, but then again, Syd's all around a tiny gal. And not only is he big, he takes care of himself- he's physically fit and eats right and so on. So yes, you're right, if he wanted to be a jerk, he could cow and bully the others and they'd be almost entirely unable to fight back (both due to his size and his shields) but he doesn't. He prefers to act with restraint and maturity.
Which is why when he was bodyswitched I was so surprised when no one noticed something was wrong. Especially Syd, because Sky would never pull that kind of body language with her.
Yeah, that episode really bothers me for that reason. I've noticed that oftentimes when Sky's upset, angry, or worried, he'll isolate himself from the others and not talk (like in "Missing", when he, Sam and the girls go to interrogate Piggy, he's clearly agitated the whole time, he nervously paces in the background and his speech is very short and clipped- which isn't like him). Wootox!Sky avoided the others and barely spoke, so that should have been a tip to the others that something wasn't right along with the body language. He wasn't paying rapt attention to Cruger, his hair was mussed, and he was generally acting cocky, casual and not Sky-like. You'd think that since Bridge and Syd were training with him for at least 2 years, they'd notice...
