England stared around the room, his ears full of the twang of cowboy accents and stomps of booted feet line dancing to rowdy country music. The entire building seems to vibrate with the sound. This didn’t look like the club that some of the other had been talking about earlier. This looked completely foreign to the Englishman.
“America, where in heaven’s name have you brought me?”
“A honky-tonk bar.”
“You said we were going to the pub.”
“I said a bar.”
England slapped a hand to his forehead. Their miscommunication was going to give him quite the cultural experience.

America stared in disbelief as the other lay down a poker hand full of spades, a royal flush. He gaped, how’d he lose?! The other had claimed he had no idea how to play Texas Hold ‘Em, that it was a completely foreign game. He stared at the winning hand for a few more moments before looking up into England’s smirk. The older nation stared at him in amusement. America swallowed, waiting for the winner’s demand. England’s smile grew wider.
“Hand over your pants, America.”
America couldn’t believe that he thought strip poker with England would be a good idea.

It was quite a journey for him to arrive here, invited by his new... acquaintance who was seeking to gain his friendship. For now their cultures were distinct although they would one day blend to both of their great amusements. America’s spirit overwhelmed him at times, he moved quickly and was eager to learn everything.
Today, however, Japan would disembark on the dusty California coast, the taste of this place already filling his mouth with every breeze. He could see the young nation smiling and waving at him. He gave a timid smile back, time to get to know him.

The embrace felt slightly foreign to him, it was not the hold that he could remember. It was not the arms of a child seeking comfort, or the awkward embrace of a teenager seeking affection he could not give him. He no longer smelled like wilderness and wheat fields. Although, the smell was still there, it was covered by cities and progress.
This embrace was from a man, one sure of himself, wanting to protect. England knew that America was trying to lighten his load, take some of the burden for himself. England leaned into the other and let him.

They had felt strange and foreign to each other before, but were now close in their friendship. They jumped when the thunder would boom, and wiped each other’s frightened tears. They sat in their lonely house, and waited for the older nations to return.
As they grew older they would whisper about how one day they would be strong, and hoped that they would always be together, as close as they could without being one.

He guessed the color was, Japan always seemed to get intimidated by colorful foods. He could see the other’s fingers twitch before reaching for his camera and snapping a few photos, as if it was a foreign object worthy of documentation.
America grinned in amusement. “C’mon it tastes good, promise!” he laughed as the other took a few more pictures before braving a sip of the brightly colored drink.
