There were days when there were tears when Ashley and Karone held each other. Often, when Karone wept for time lost, for things she'd done... for everything. There were days when Ashley needed to cry, too, remembering everything she had seen, that she and her friends had been through.
But today was not one of those days.
It was a lazy, uneventful afternoon. It was storming outside, so the two of them were stuck indoors. There were no words spoken this time, no tears shed. Just Ashley... and Karone... alone in a single bed, enjoying each others' company.
"We don't have enough days like this," Karone said sleepily, bliss on her face as Ashley carefully ran fingers through the other girl's blonde hair, stroking it.
"No, we don't," Ashley agreed. "But in a way, I'm almost glad for that. It makes them that much sweeter." Karone shifted so that she was more comfortable, resting her head against Ashley's chest, taking in her scent- flowery, thanks to perfume, but something more underneath it, something Karone always found comforting.
"You're right," said Karone. "So let's make the most of this peace while we have it." Ashley kissed the top of her head before resting her chin there, wrapping her arms around Karone now, holding her close, protectively.
Nothing could touch them. Ashley would make sure of that. She finally shifted herself so she could watch Karone as the girl slept... looking so peaceful, innocent. Vulnerable. Beautiful.
