Z stood at the door to the lab, feeling very uncertain about this now. Maybe it'd be easier to just buy another music player. After all, with a steady income, she had the money... but frugality was a hard habit to lose, even when you roomed with Princess Sydney Sparklepants.
"Uh, guys?" she said. Maybe they weren't in.
She was about to turn and head back to her room when two heads popped up from behind a bench. Both wearing big plastic glasses. "Z!" Bridge exclaimed happily. "Good to see you!"
Boom bumbled over towards her. "What can we do for you?"
"Oh, um, my player's busted? Any chance you could fix it for me, please?"
Bridge and Boom's heads snapped around and they smiled identical smiles at each other. "We can fix it," Bridge said.
Boom smiled. "We'll make it faster!"
"Better!"
"Stronger!"
"Tastier!"
Boom stopped. "'Tastier'? What do you mean, Bridge?"
"Sorry, got carried away."
Boom plucked Z's music player out of her hands. "Just like this!"
"No adding anything with toast to it, Bridge!" Z yelled as the door shut in her face.

Bridge peered at the music player. "We've done good," he said, admiringly.
"We sure have," Boom said cheerfully. He put his hand out for a high five, without taking his eyes off the player.
Bridge made the hit, also without taking his eyes off the player.
"We rock, Boom."
"We so do."
It was shiny, now. They'd cleaned it up. And added things. Including a pen, a toothbrush, and a port for, yes, a tiny portable bread-heater, that Bridge was SURE Z would love. Who wouldn't? It also had tiny lightning stripes down the side, to make it go faster, but not when it was playing a slow song. Bridge had assured Boom that THAT would just be silly.
Boom reached over and kissed Bridge gently on the lips, all without moving his gaze from Z's music player.
Bridge went "mmph?" at first, but then he raised his eyebrows, shrugged, and returned the kiss.

Z was surprised when she came back some time later, to discover her music player all by itself in the center of the table, and Bridge and Boom enthusiastically making out in one corner. "Uh, thanks guys?" she called, grabbing it and beating a hasty retreat.
It looked like it still played music. That was all that was important. She couldn't room with Syd if she couldn't shut her out now and then.
