“I swear, if your head gets any bigger, it’ll float away.”
“Just what do you mean by that?” Nick snapped.
Vida scowled. “Your ego. The ‘King of All’ attitude you’ve got. It’s gotten old.”
“And what about you?” he shot back. “You think you don’t have an attitude? You’re the most egocentric chick I’ve ever met. Someone seriously needs to knock that chip off your shoulder.”
“And you just happen to think you’re the guy to do it?” She laughed. It was not a laugh of amusement. “I’d like to see you try.”
“Is that a request?” Nick’s eyes held a smoldering hint of anger.
“Bring it, red boy.”
The next instant caught Vida completely unawares. She’d been expecting Nick to charge her, and in a way he had, but it was the end result that left her mind swimming. Nick’s mouth was on hers, his fingers buried in her hair. Vida stopped breathing, she couldn’t even think as the sound of her suddenly pounding heart drowned everything else out.
After what seemed like an eternity, Nick finally released her, leaving her blinking at him. He smirked. “How was that?”
A slow, devious smile crept across her face. “Perfect. I can’t believe you fell for it so easily.” Smiling and chuckling slightly, she walked away.
Nick stared after her. Wondering just who had won. And what.
