[Snip] First Form, yet again

By his fifth shift, Drevin had managed to stuff enough of the basics into his head that he could handle a few common problems with the help of a fighter's own diagnostic systems. If the computer system was completely offline, that was rather beyond him, and repairs to the frame would probably take a few months to get a good handle on just for the sheer variety of parts involved, but the most likely technical failings he could deal with.

So it was that he found himself working his way down a row of two-seater Shrike fighters while Revil went to talk to the quartermaster. The first two turned out to be surprisingly easy - all the parts were in working order, just each one had something that had been knocked out of alignment. The quick tests Drevin had been taught to do with a multi-tool came up good; reseat the parts, give the damage-control routines a nudge, and both initialized just fine in all systems. Done and done.

The third one in the row wasn't responding at all, but he was ahead of schedule, and Revil wasn't back yet; he delved into the works, trying to at least rule out a few of the basic possibilities before he gave up and moved on.
