an epitaph for. ..

This morning I had the doctor's appointment to get blood drawn for the BRC1/2 mutation gene test, so I drove my father's pickup truck to UCD Med. Center.  While driving on the freeway, I felt dejavu..  I then remembered that I dreamt that I was driving down the freeway and all of the sudden my vehicle went out of control and I was spinning!  "What a terrible dream", I thought..  The nurse had a bit of trouble getting my blood drawn.  After piercing me with the needle, she kept on sticking it around under the skin to try to get the blood to go into the tube!! Ouch!  Afterwards, my right arm was all sore.  In fact, it is still sore right now.  :(  Perhaps it is a foretelling of events to come later in the day.. .

After the doctor's appointment, I went to work late.. and it was quite unproductive again today!  My right arm and fingers were feeling numb, so I couldn't really pipet things too well.  Later, my co-worker told me that one of the actresses of the original "Charlie's Angels" died..  I didn't really know that actress though.  Then, during lunch, among all that hip hop 103.5 bad music, I heard a familiar tune of.. .  "Beat it" by Michael Jackson?!  I was confused why they might play it..  Finally, when I was washing my lunch bowl, a courier came in the lab and said, "Did you hear that Michael Jackson died?"   I was shocked!!  It sounds so impossible and unreal!   I went online and found that it is true..  Michael Jackson died today at around 12:30PM by cardiac arrest.

I was born smack dab on 1980, so one of the greatest pop icons of the '80s is Michael Jackson.  I remember his Pepsi commercials too (maybe that is why I somehow prefer Pepsi over Coca Cola?!).  We also loved to play the arcade game "Michael Jackson: Moonwalker".. and it was ported over to the Sega Genesis!  The relationship between him and Sega must be good because he again appears in the music game "Space Channel 5"!  When we were young, my brothers and I had this "Viewfinder" toy (forgot the name exactly).. It looks similar to a polaroid camera, but there are circular pages with slides you can put in it to look at like a projector.  We had one that contains scenes from Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video.  Also, sometimes when we were in the car, we would sometimes pretend that Michael Jackson is following us in the car next to us!  I also own and often wear my pair of jeans that has 3 buckled straps on each leg that my brothers and I nickname it "The Michael Jackson Pants".  When I wear it with my buttoned sweater and put on sunglasses, I think its a pretty good imitation of the King of Pop himself!! :D

I think that Michael Jackson contributed a lot to modern pop culture.  I like to think that he is one of the most successful African American music artist that influenced others when racism is still prevalent in society.  Undoubtedly, he is one of the most flashy pop star around with his flamboyant clothes, smooth dance moves, and distinctive voice.  He definately has a unique style.  I was looking back at some of his music videos.. and what I see is a sharply dressed black person.  The whole baggy pants gangster look common in young black males look so shabby in comparison!

You know, I have heard of all those lawsuits and accusations of child molestation against him.. but I still am not sure if those accusations are true.  The media has been portraying Michael Jackson as a strange and wacky pop star.  People think of him getting all the plastic surgeries and changing his skin color whiter, but not much people listen or read that he has skin medical problems or that he broke his nose in an accident.  What I find very sad is that he was just getting ready to hold his first comeback live concerts in 12 years in just a couple of weeks!  The tickets are already all sold out.  To die at a young age of 50 years is a tragedy and a loss to our society.  It seems that most great artists tend to be eccentric people with odd traits, but have such wonderful talent.. but most of them are like flowers that have abloom for a short while and wither abruptly. ...
