My lover left me standing eastbound on Highway 169, the victim of a bad cliché.

Seriously, this summer was amazing. Treeplanting really changed me, made me see beauty amid burning, bug-bitten, swollen, raw misery. Something about survival. Money evaporating into meaningless digits. I couldn't plant trees for the money but I could do it for a cigarette, or a joint, or a shot of whiskey, or a piece of candy. Treeplanting ( Read more... )

I know the survival feeling you're talking about. But honestly I would be happy if I never felt it again. I think 4.5 years in the army got it out of my system.

And you planted twice as many trees as my friend. I'm not sure if 3,000 would be considered good or bad...

It depends on how many seasons you've been planting for and who you talk to, although I'd consider 3000 in a day to be pretty good. I averaged around 2000-2500 by the end and my record is 3870 (or thereabouts), but a lot of the 2nd and 3rd year planters (esp. the Quebecois guys) regularly planted 4000-5000 a day. Our highballer planted an average of 6000 a day.

Oops, my bad. This guy planted 30,000 trees in total in the same length of time you planted twice that many.

that's tragically romantic.

I'm a cheeseball...but not really.

I agree that this place is awful. I've been feeling pretty ill since the first day I got here, and the feeling seems to have lodged itself in my throat, which makes eating a pain in the ass. I find that this city feels dead for the most part, although I think I'm slowly finding signs of life. I'm still looking forward to moving on from this place.

I can't believe you're going to be here for three more years!!!!!!!

I sing all the time too, and I'm really 'bad' in the singing talent department. I like to sing on the metro. I'm not very loud though to avoid total outcasting. In a similar vien I love to run, like in the halls at school or down the street. I got caught in the halls at Concordia last year, but I said "oh sometimes I run when no one is around!" and the girl said me too. So really all those people are probably dying to sing.

xo Kat.

P.S. If I went tree planting I'd probably cry the whole time and earn five dollars but sometimes I fantasize about it.

Today my friend did cartwheels in the courtyard because he had always wanted to do cartwheels in the courtyard and I felt sad because I couldn't (recovering from carpal tunnel and tendonitis). People gave him wierd looks but I think they were smiling too..

the Gaelic College is awesome eh? You're so crazy Shanti! Sorry I missed you at Red Rock this summer. Maybe I'll see you again in the next 5 years! Oh, and make sure to give Kyla hell, from Bizzy.
