First off, there was a surprisingly passionless crowd of about 5000 people. I went because I oppose the American Missile Defence System and Canada's entry into the program. There are many reasons for that, which I don't feel like getting into at the moment. Other people were protesting things such as the liberation of Palestine, capitalism, homosexual marriage, war, American terrorism, and of course the War on Iraq. While I believe in Iraqi self-determination, I am unsure of whether I agree with continued American presence in Iraq.. this is a complicated issue, obviously. They shouldn't have started the war in the first place, but what's done is done. As for the future, on one hand, they should clean up the mess they made and help to rebuild the infrastructure, on the other, American corporations are making huge profits on rebuilding Iraq and there are various theories involving the World Bank and third world debt.. I'm also fairly disenchanted with the protest movement and with the abundance of personal attacks on George Bush. In my opinion, there is nothing more futile than going on about how stupid Bush is: attack the policies, not the puppet.
Anyhow, here are the pictures, because I know you all want them..
Blah, it's blurry, but at least you get the idea of the "front line".
