Make goals singing songs

Aug 07, 2006 00:13

  • MLS All-Stars 1-0 Chelsea FC...can you believe it?! What an exciting match! It was only an exihibition game, but the players didn't know that. They were playing as if it were an elimination round. Both sides were energetic on the attack and ruthless on defense.
  • My dad missed this one, heh heh. He had an obligation that night, heh heh.
  • I love the ESPN commentators. I learn more from them than my teachers at school. It was hard to pay attention to both the pitch and the commentators at times. Eric Wynalda (former US national player) is my absolute favorite because there's a subtle sarcasm to everything he has to say. Small guy compared to other former US nationals (Like Lalas), so I guess he used his big mouth in lieu of size to intimidate other guys back in the day.
  • The Azzurri aren't the only entire team that I'd do...I have to add Chelsea to the queue. LOVE Essien, Ferreira, Carvalho, Lampard, and Terry, as well as their new additions. Kalou was everywhere! Ballack looks tons better with all his ridiculous hair shaved off. Sheva sans les cheveux, not so much; I preferred his preppier look while at AC Milan, but alas. He and Ballack are also very tan all of a sudden. Seems they've had a nice vacation at the beach with only speedos on...ahem.
  • Anyone hear about all the trouble Gallas caused? He asked for extra vacation time, Chelsea's manager Jose Mourinho denied him, so he refused to show up at the airport for Chelsea's US tour. Mourinho's a bitch because he let Makelélé (and I'm sure there are more French Chelsea players) have an extended vacation because France got far along in the World Cup. One of the commentators stated that Mourinho has called himself God in the past. Lulz, what a fug.
  • Ok, Chelsea may be better-looking than the All-Stars as a whole, but DAMN it seems MLS has talent after all!!! They played with speed and agility and all the goods. Tricks worthy of the Brazilians, amazing shots, AWESUMP defense, aggressive counterattacks, and so forth. Two of MLS's "best" players, Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey had to miss out on this match due to injury and club commitments, respectively. prechorus and I had a lengthy comment-war last night (early this morning, rather) about the future of the US national squad with more MLSers. A ton of MLSers don't have US citizenship since they're imports from South American and other growing football countries, but the US federal government gave Tanith Belbin (Canadian ice-dancer) citizenship just a month before the Torino Winter Olympics so she could compete with her partner. They should do the same with Moreno and de Rosario! Those bitchez can mess shit up, and definitely deserve to be on the national squad.
  • Back to the commentators for a second. It seemed like they were mocking Chelsea at times. Not very nice at all, precious. It's Chelsea's preseason, they've got new additions that are still getting used to playing with one another, and a ton of the players just came back from being lazy for a month after playing in the World Cup. The All-Stars had a clear edge because it's mid-season for MLS; the players are in top physical form. I think it's premature to say that the US is a world football power, but we're certainly heading down that road. I hope we are.
  • I had such a wonderful time screaming at the TV, rooting the players on. Need more opportunities to cheer for good things that come out of the US, no?
  • Our national squad still needs a coach. Peter Nowak from DC United (♥ my boys) and the coach from LA Galaxy seem to be the top contenders right now, but I want Klinsi so bad. How perfect is it that he lives in SoCal, where the national squad trains?
  • Love the fact that BBC makes a bigger deal out of Chelsea meeting Snoop Dog and Joe Cole's injury than the fact that the we KICKED THEIR ASSES woot. Some Chelsea fans are concerned about their loss to us Americans, however. I would be, too.
  • Random: Freddie Adu (who did not have his usual amazing performance last night) is a little more than a month younger than me. He's accomplished so much already, and I feel pathetic lol.
  • Random II: DC United and AC Milan wear the same colors! Black-and-Red = Rossoneri! This makes it easier for me to decorate my textbooks next year...I can just have one dedicated to my football teams instead of one each for DCU and ACM. But how will yellow and green ever go with black and red? Hmm.

Troy Perkins of DC United! Played first half. Not only cute, but talented as well :)

Perkins again.

Training session for MLS All-Stars. Boswell in yellow, but I want you to focus on Erpen in the back. Specifically the Argentine Cheekbones of Lovely Doom.

Mmm, Ballack and Essien. Chelsea practice.

Biceps!

John Terry, who is attractive in a quiet kind-of-way.

Lampard!

MLS took a leaf out of German's book and used the kid escorts. The German kids were more adorable :3

MLS All-Stars represent!

Moreno 1-0 Ballack, hahaha.

Drogba, who works better with Chelsea than Côte d'Ivoire. It always sucks when you have one star on a national squad that the rest of the players can't seem to feed :(

Dwayne de Rosario (from Cananada!) with Freddie Adu of DCU.

Essien's in front of Adu here. They're both from Ghana! Imagine taking on one of your heroes...

Ching won't let Sheva through! (Go back to Milano, Sheva, and make pretty manpiles with Kaká and Seedorf.)

Sheva was taken off after the first half. Poor thing, I really do hope he adjusts to his new teammates quickly. He's had a long run with Milan, and deserves a new challenge. I read that during his first conference as a Chelsea player in LA, he spoke in Italian because he's still working on his English, lol. His wife, an American, says that their three year-old speaks more English than Sheva. I'm guessing she knows Italian? Footballers are so lucky to have so much exposure to foreign languages :[

Ah, the best moment of any game: the jersey swap.

*

The following are pictures I came across while looking for references for a drawing (further below).

Gila claims Kaká claims Mystery Goalscorer. ACM manpiles > everything.

That goes for piggybacks, too.

This is the Sheva/Seedorf/Kaká love I was talking about earlier.

Taking on Bayern Munich's Lahm. LOL their faces...

Ah, Brazilian love between rivals Barça and Milan. Ronaldinho, Kaká, and Serginho.

They look like sculptures, fuck. Silly Gila face!

A snap of the drawing that took SEVEN different references to complete. (Note to self: never again start without a direct reference!) It was supposed to be Kaká, but I'm not much of an artist, so the face is entirely off. Oh well, lol.

For prechorus, for being as ridiculously obsessed with football along with me. I accidentally mirrored it horizontally in Photoshop, so when you get the hard copy, it'll be backwards. Can you guess who it is? If you can't, that's fine, lol!

Gattuso: Well, BUCCHI.

Gattuso: FORZA GENNARO!
Crowd: WE♥UMAN
Azzurri: HOLY.
Lippinho: *facepalm*

LOL yeah.

The Song by Letters Meme:
Comment and ask for a letter, I'll give you a letter, you upload songs that start with the letter. prechorus gave me the letter L, so here goes! ETA: these links never expire, so repost all you want.

Layla by Derek and the Dominos - It's a great Clapton classic. I love the instrumental ending.

Live And Let Die by Paul McCartney - Had a special place in my heart ever since my marching band played it. Live version by Paulie in 2002.

Lola by The Kinks - Great story, catchy chorus. I love this song so much, I named my cell phone Lola :)

Long, Long, Long by The Beatles - Couldn't avoid putting this one in. willy__wonka and I played a game called "Guess this Beatles song!" and this was the only one I couldn't guess. I had the hardest time remembering it, since it's one of White Album's more obscure songs. I've been extra nice to it ever since.

Love by John Lennon - This one reminds me of an old friend. I can't describe how beautiful this is. Acoustic version.

Love Street by The Doors - My favorite part in The Doors movie, though I fell in love with the song on its own first. The first two lines, just...awww.

Love You To by The Beatles - Part of what makes Revolver so great. It's mantric, psychedelic, filthy, and Eastern in the best possible way.

Lumos! (Hedwig's Theme) by John Williams - Let's change it up a bit, eh? Classical soundtrack music is good for you!

PS: Barça v Chivas just finished on FSC. Zambrotta, Deco, and Messi never played, and Ronaldinho, only part of second half! There was a Spanish player named Jesús, though...But seriously, I want my money's worth next Saturday!! If I don't see Deco [and the rest] play, I will EXPLODE.
