Hope for Japan How to Help

Mar 12, 2011 22:41

With the quakes and tsunami going on in Japan, the feeling of helplessness is really strong. We want to help, but don't know how.

Please keep these things in mind while watching the news and following information on twitter:

DO NOT post rumors! This is very important!
The internet is an extremely helpful tool and social networking has played a major part in families and friends finding relief. USE the internet to our advantage by tweeting and retweeting information, but make sure your information is valid! Spread FACTS, not RUMORS. HOPE, not PANIC.

I've compiled a list of places currently taking donations for aid to Japan.

American Red Cross They take credit cards, minimum amount is $10
--> You can also TEXT 'REDCROSS' to 90999 to donate $10
--> Red Cross in Australia, Finland, Germany

Shelter Box USA They take credit cards, minimum $1
-->Shelter box for FRANCE, DENMARK and GERMANY

Global Giving They take credit cards, paypal, and checks, minimum amount is $25.

Save the Children They take credit cards, minimum $1

Indonesia Aid

Lady Gaga's WE PRAY FOR JAPAN bracelet Takes credit cards and paypal, bracelets are $5

Takuya Angel is selling products to help out.

I know it's a lot, but keep in mind even $1 is something and greatly appreciated! Please also be aware of scams! If your country has a specific donation organization that is mobilizing for Japan, please comment with their website and I'll add it!

the GazettE boys and their staff are SAFE, Gazetweet_eng has kindly translated many of the tweets from the Aoi and Ruki. The boys have been doing their best to help spread information and help. Ruki has made a map of shelters (translation here). And this link has been being shared to help families and friends find missing people.

Please continue to retweet and share information such as this and safety as both Aoi, Ruki and other J-artists has been doing. Just remember to make sure the information is valid! Even if you can't donate, please spread the information! If you're feeling useless, please read this.
