Hal-an’ toe, jolly rum-be-low.
We were up long before the day, oh,
For to fetch the summer home,
And welcome in the May, oh,
For summer is a-comin' in
And winter's gone away-o.
Take the scorn and wear the horns.
It was the crest e’re you were born.
Your father's father wore it then;
His father wore it too, oh.
Chorus
Robin Hood and Marion
Have both gone to the fair-o,
And we will to the merry greenwood
To see what they do there, oh.
Chorus
And as for that good knight, St. George,
St. George he was a knight , oh
Of all the knights of Christendom,
St. George he has the right, oh.
Chorus
What happened to the Spaniards
That made so great a boast, oh.
Now they shall eat the feathered goose
And we shall eat the roast, oh.
Chorus
God bless our Gloriana,
And give her power and might, oh,
And send us peace to England,
And peace by day and night, oh.
Chorus (& repeat)
I was up at 5 to meet the
White Rats
and the
Faultline
Morris sides at the Alameda Ferry parking lot to dance the May in. Due, I am sure, to their excellent dancing, the sun did indeed rise and shall do so for all of the next year. After that, we went gadding around Alameda eating, drinking and dancing or watching as the case may have been. A good day for simple pleasures.
