I usually don't post about everyday life, just cause. I have a livejournal for that, but today something took me so off guard I... really don't know how to react.
Most people know this already, but I wear wigs every day cause my hair doesn't grow. And in the small place it does, I shave off so I can wear the wigs. I got a new one in yesterday that's styled and colored like Rikku from Final Fantasy. It's for cosplaying, but I took it into work to show one of the stylists (I work at a hair salon), wearing my black one to work. Sundays are very slow days, so at one point, I was in the back and I put the Rikku wig on to show it off.
Now my manager doesn't usually work on Sundays, but this Sunday of all Sundays she decides to show up. She saw me with the wig and flipped out. Literally. Even when I explained to her nicely that I wasn't wearing the wig all day, I was just showing the Rae the wig, which I've done with my other wigs and have had no problem before, she wouldn't hear it. These are some of the snippets of what she said:
'you've crossed the line with your ridiculous and irrational need to be different. [Insert salon name] has been around for over 30 years. We're conservative here, we don't put up with this fantasy crap you like. I don't even understand why it appeals to you.'
me: I'm sorry, I was only showing it to Rae (who was sent out so manager could talk to me). I have my black one to wear.
'That's beside the point. If it wasn't for the fact that you can't not wear a wig, I'd have you go without, because this is ridiculous'
me: *ignores the fact that she ignored the fact that I have another wig to wear* why can't I go without?
'*scoffs* you can't not work at a hair salon and not have hair. Besides, with your hair problem, it doesn't look attractive without a wig.'
.....excuse me? I have never... EVER been called unattractive before in my entire life. And now, because of the fact that my hair doesn't grow because I have a MEDICAL DISORDER I'm unattractive without hair?
I just... don't know how to react to it. I didn't when she said it either. I just sort of stared at her and she turned and walked away.
I mean....gosh....
This so beats my sister calling me Baldemort when she thinks I can't hear.
