Gears!

My monitor's native resolution is 1600x1050 (16:10).
My graphics card (8600gts) can't handle it.
I want to downscale to 1280x800 (also 16:10), which is possible in Vista, but for some reason not possible in XP ... I only have the option to choose 4:3 resolutions. Any ideas how to get around this, or am I stuck with black bars on the sides of my LCD?
