"Omg massiev library haul!!!"

Jan 30, 2008 18:49

This morning at eight o'clock sharp, a working crew arrived and started taking our bathroom apart. Out went the fixtures, the lights, the plastic coating from the walls and finally - with a noise only a power tool can create - the top layer of the concrete floor. The reason for this was that yesterday the serviceman who had come to swap our broken toilet seat for a new one had noticed that the plastic coating on the floor was detached. This was seen as a sign of moisture damage and a few phonecalls later we heard we'd be without a shower-room for a week or so.

Well... At least having a second functioning toilet means we aren't required to "outsource" our "business". It would surely have been annoying to both our neighbours and us.

(I just now realized that part about business sounds more like an euphemism for producing drugs than bodily waste. -_-; )

Our landlords suggested we make use of the public sauna next door for our showering needs, which isn't a bad idea at all. But today I wanted something more and off to the swimming hall I went. Half a kilometer in the pool and I was done for. Swimming during rush hours - swimming club practices and such - felt more like driving in heavy traffic then the leisurely intensive physical zen-searching I was accustomed to. Morning swims are starting to look tempting again.

On the way home from the swimming hall I dropped off my last batch of library loans (the first in years) and went looking for new loot. Here's what will be occupying my time in the near future:

BOOKS
-Iain M. Banks: Feersum Endjinn
-Iain M. Banks: Against a Dark Background
-Arkadi & Boris Strugatski: Stalker
-Kari Hotakainen: Juoksuhaudantie
-Alastair Reynolds: Timanttikoirat, Turkoosit Päivät
-Ayn Rand: Atlas Shrugged

(Sci-fi buff? Who, me?)

MUSIC
-Desperado the Soundtrack
-Madness - The Dangermen Sessions vol.1
-Marcia Ball - So Many Rivers
-Regina Carter - paganini: after a dream
-Allan Holdsworth - Wardenclyffe Tower
-Allan Holdsworth - Flat Tire (Music for a Non-Existent Movie)
-Pat Metheny - Zero Tolerance for Silence
-Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble - Live at Montreux 1982&1985
-Dream Theater - Score
-Tarot - To Live Again

The Tarot album seemed to be a part of a five-disc collection of some sort, but I thought I didn't want to monopolize half of my capacity with just one band. The Dream Theater album I do have on DVD, but it looked so tempting that I just had to. Also, not owning a decent DVD player can really put a stopper on watching them.

I'll try to have something to say about the albums - and maybe the books too - in a couple of days. If everything goes according to plan.
