Not much info on this but an interesting area - Note also the interesting name of the 'small software company' :) .
This was found in a random blog.
I was recently on a job interview for a position as an Information Designer for a DARPA funded project called CPOF (Command Post of the Future). The project roots was the brainchild of Dr. Steven Roth who unexpectedly died last summer right after the purchase of his company by the huge military subcontractor, General Dynamics. The software application is impressive. It is so advanced; it helps Generals who command troops on the field anticipate behavior which in turn helps save lives (the developers claim it can read minds). Dr. Roth, who was named one of the top 50 CEOs to watch in 2005 by Fastcompany, designed his software to evaluate enormous amounts of data in a very clear and efficient way. And then share it in real time among hundreds or even thousands of troops, commanders and Generals.
The user of the system (ground forces) simply can create windows (called appliances), and then drop data feeds onto it. These appliances can then reformat this data into meaningful diagrams that is further edited by the user. It is a novel approach. There can be any number of data feeds within an appliance and each appliance can then be added to a virtual whiteboard which in turn is shared and analyzed across the network.
It is very powerful. So powerful in fact, a growing number of US Generals believe it is the most advanced form of troop commanding and control ever developed since the bugle and excessive profanity.
