By some enormous luck I wrangled my way in to an incredible HP gathering in Berkeley this Saturday. I met so many wonderful and talented ladies and took part in some wonderful conversations. I can't thank
rexluscus enough for allowing me to attend or
pir8fancier,for pointing the way. In addition to the aforementioned, in attendance at Juan's Place were
stasia,
aubrem,
sinick, (who I knew from Yaoicon, and whose Snape I ADORE!),
acromantularlaurelwood,
elfwreckswtjemz and
loupgarou1750, with whom I spent much time talking to, and
pauraque,
perverse_idyll,
acromantular,
zahavah,and
eldriwolf, with whom I didn't get to spend hardly any at all. I blame the unfortunate seating and the fact that there were so many new people to meet.
I'm not worried though, we will be doing this again. Probably at my house!
The conversations were amazing, I have so many new authors to check out. After a while the staff at Juans got anxious for us to leave and so we moved to Urban Blend down in Jack London Square and continued to disturb the other patrons with our lewd discussion which never seemed to stray very far from man sex and dildos. The dildos were mostly my fault. There was an interesting moment when I realized that most everyone knew each other some way through their love for Snape/Harry fic. And another interesting moment when I stated that while I love "snarry", Harry/Draco is my first love. In the spirit of glasnost however, there were no ship wars, and all were accepted. I was made to feel very welcome, and as a lurker, was grateful for the open arms.
Around 11 or so we decided to call it a night, and as I was taking Jemz back to her car in Berkeley, once again found reason to find CalTrans evil and not in a good way. The sign about a mile out says 13 south Hayward 1 ile, 13 North Berkeley 1 and 3/4 miles. When you get closer it says 13 South, makes no mention of the north exit, so you keep going and by the time you pass it, you see the sign for 13 north which is the SAME DAMN EXIT! Fuckers. I was able to turn around and we made it to Berkeley without any further mishaps.
