Its been a LONG-ass time since I posted, luckily there's some stuff to talk about.
I've had Burnout3 since monday, and its fucking great. Criterion managed to make something so purely enjoyable. The game quite literally starts you out saying to yourself, "This is fucking insane." But with that initial insanity typically comes stagnation, ahhh, quite the contrary. The shit just gets more fucking insane. So much crazy shit takes place in this game, that the sort of "Dear God that was incredible" events that typically show up once every blue moon in driving games are actually what Burnout brings to the table on a regular basis. Crazy shit like cross-traffic semis plowing in front of the guy you're grinding with, making him vanish in an instant. Crazy shit like seeing the car that just crossed your path a second ago soaring back the other direction, narrowly missing the top of your car, spewing bolts and chipped paint like so much creamed corn. And not only is it fun as hell, its incredibly accessible. the controls consist of left, right, gas, break, and boost. That's it. No handbrake, no manual transmissions (and while initially I was disappointed by that, you understand why manual was omitted the second you lay on the gas and boost at the same time from a standstill-your clutch turns into a fucking machine gun) no bullshit. Can you drift? Hell yeah you can. Do donuts? Knock yourself out. Let out aggression? Better fucking believe it. Cause million dollar accidents? Damn straight. Blow up oil tankers? Jack up them prices to your heart's content. The game's just plain fucking fun, and I have yet to play it online, an experience I have no doubt will be beyond competitive.
Half life 2, Counter-Strike Source, and Half-Life Source have all been submitted by valve to Vivendi Universal as release candidates. For the layman, Valve says they's done, which means Vivendi's only gotta give em a once over to green-light production. The great purchasing will soon begin.
