I think by now you're the only reason I can find to stay, so friend of mine, just come away with me

Wow, things have been great as of late. I went to Massachusetts for the weekend and stayed with Rick and Lori and had a really wonderful time--I taught Rider how to play some guitar (he's such a smart kid) and I sang for Rick and Lori's Boston Marathon team, bonded a bunch with their daughter, Macie. Rider and I went out sledding and I built a fort. Rider even let me ride his Blade Runner once down the hill and it was schweet. It was so nice to see them again and to really get to spend time with their family.

I also went to Rachel's eighteenth birthday party (sigh...she was so beautiful!), which was really a nice experience because I got to hang out with Rachel, Shaun, Pete and Eric, not to mention Karen and Paul. I had a wonderful conversation with Eric as we went on a mission to fetch pizza. In a lot of ways he reminds me of Bob--very much an old soul, interested in living with nature, not against it. It's interesting to see that this is the sort of direction he's taking. And I am so proud of Shaun! he's still in nursing school and was telling me about all these different patients he had to see. I was sort of hoping all along that he would go into pediatrics because he'd just be a natural at it, and he said he was considering it. It made me really happy to talk to him and I think he's planning on coming down for a few days to visit, which would be amazing. It's sort of strange that I've known him all my life and yet we've very rarely hung out together. When we do it's always very low key and nice, like last year's motorcycle ride (which inspired the writing of my first song!) It was funny, he actually asked me if I remembered the ride, and i was about to say "DUH!" but didn't want to seem weird, so i tentatively asked if we could go out again, to which he pointed out that it was a)nighttime and b)snowing. Hmm.

Also, I hung out with Benji (as, strangely enough, he is from my hometown). I didn't really know what to expect as I'd never really hung out with him too much before, and he talks a lot with my sister so I was all prepared to be aloof and protective, but honestly? Cool guy. I had a lot of fun with him. We went to Grafton's new Mexican (gasp! ethnicity!) restaurant and bought quesadillas and then went back to his house and jammed out. Benji's quite good, musically, so we did some John Mayer and some Tracy Chapman. He laid over a really sick guitar piece to one of Piper's songs. He has all these shanty books so we decided to do a spoken-word shanty album (he was especially drawn to one called "The Handsome Cabin Boy", until we discovered that the song was actually about a cross-dressing woman). I took some of the quesadillas home with me, and by the time they made it back to my dorm through the bus ride, the T ride and the subway, they had turned into what looked like mutant guacamole balls. And, since Benji had mentioned that he wanted to start a mariachi band to play at Grafton's new Mexican restaurant, I suggested the name "Pepe and the Guacamutants," which has now become the unofficial title of Piper's, Benji's and my band. Here is the album cover of our first CD, created by my sister:

We're so related. But yeah, I intend to return to grafton for the re-opening of Swirls and Scoops. It'll be like my Mecca pilgrimage. Hopefully we're going to go to boston at some time to visit Kegjuice, and during that visit I hope to actually play some music with Claire. So all good things.

And I love my studio class. There are some great people in there. I'm seeing step up 2 the streets with Katey, Acacia and Carmen on Saturday. Hot.

love,
