2012 365 Day Picture Challenge

Jan 01, 2013 11:52

On 01/01/12, I posted:

In an effort to get better with pictures, I'm going to do a 365 Day Picture Challenge. I will take 365 pictures this year and post them to my flickr account, facebook and google+. I hope that at the end of the year, I'll have a little snapshot of a year of my life, what I did, who I was, who I did it with, from my big camera, my little pocket camera, and my phone camera. I won't sweat it if I don't manage to get each day's picture uploaded on that day, and I may fall behind sometimes or post tremendously mundane and boring pictures. And you can bet that I'll post 982739874 puppy pictures. But I also hope to some days hand the camera to someone else and get pictures of myself, or take them in the mirror or from the end of my arm.

Mission complete!

It was definitely a challenge. I did post some boring, mundane pictures just to fulfill the challenge. Many, many, many pictures were of puppies. According to my year of pictures, I mostly like dogs, other animals, food and flowers. But it's neat to have a record of a year of my life.

Many people have asked if I plan to do it again in 2013. That's a definite no. I need a break. This project became an obligation. Each day for a year I posted a picture (I won't claim it was a picture taken that day, because some days I'd take several and save some for droughts), and I posted it to facebook, to google+ and to flickr (or whatever subset of those was available for uploading that day/from that place). I did it when we traveled to Kerrville for Easter Hill Country Weekend, and then for Kerrville 70.3. I did it when we traveled to Corpus for Republic of Texas. I did it when we spent nearly 2 weeks in Quebec, preparing for and doing an Ironman triathlon.

So while I'm incredibly proud of myself for doing it, I'm not sure I'll ever do it again. However, I know I enjoyed the photos of the other people who took on the challenge (whether they made it through or not), and so I will do my best to continue to post frequent pictures this year. Just hopefully with less obligatory filler pictures, maybe more days when I post multiple pictures instead of just one (when you don't know if you'll have a picture for tomorrow or the next day, you want to hoard any pictures you have just in case), and without the overarching sense of OH MY GOD I HAVE TO FIND SOMETHING INTERESTING TO PHOTOGRAPH that has plagued my last year.

So thank you for the encouragement, the comments and the likes! The mostly full set is on flickr and g+, but the true archive is here on flickr.

I enjoyed going through them all again and picking out my favorites. I tried to keep it short, but here's my favorite photos of the 365 day challenge for 2012.

Day 14: Weekends are for puppies.

Day 30: Just in case my mom was still concerned her ears were going to stand up.

Day 56: It's that cat nobody believes in, because whenever anyone other than me or Matt is around, she's most decidedly not.

Day 62: "Hey, I'm gonna take a picture of this lovely yellow fl.. oh. Hi, Hilda."

Day 64: Giant chair in the elevator foyer on the 15th floor of the Holiday Inn Superdome. And.. patterns.

Day 67: Heron.

Day 69: Two identical bearded mannequins laying on the ground in bunny suits with hyper-realistic foot-bottoms looking like they're about to dissect a stuffed bunny.

Day 79: Cowmauflage.

Day 85: I have no children, and the puppies weren't around, but I had to take adorable pictures of SOMEone in the bluebonnets.

Day 86: When Hilda was at the vet the other day, Enzo went too, and they took her Enzo through that door right there, and she kept a constant vigil at the door until they returned her Enzo to her.

Day 97: We bought old-person compression socks from Walgreens and lounged about in them in our hotel room.

Day 108: AdventureSheps!

Day 110: A really beautiful evening for a swim out at Emma Long with Texas Iron.

Day 121: In Madison, WI alone for a week for a work conference. Unexpectedly got a suite. First order of business...

Day 136: Happy 1st birthday to the sweetest and goofiest little shepherd!

Day 144: I went up to take a few pictures at the turtle pond, and this turtle swam over and was all, "TURTLE SNACKS, LADY. NOW."

Day 167: Does the 15 second rule apply when you have no idea who dropped it when?

Day 185: Okayokayokay, it's not his birthday anymore, but how could I not post this nose picture? Happy unbirthday, Enzo!

Day 189: This is NOT the place to bring your electric cows.

Day 190: CSI: HEB.

Day 201: Loll.

Day 205: Underbrella.

Day 222: Consider yourself warned, campus squirrels know NO fear.

Day 223: Tapering, so don't really want to do anything on the schedule, but this was a nice reward for doing our pre-ride Barton Springs swim.

Day 229: A Very Large Chair. (I needed assistance removing myself from said chair.)

Day 236: I have many, many, many pictures from the trip still to upload/caption, but since today was a travel day where nothing much photo-worthy happened, here's a picture of a bumbly bee we saw while walking around Montreal on Friday.

Day 253: Lovely view as I stepped outside my house this morning. (Cheshire moon, but you can't tell from the picture.)

Day 275: Both back feet off the ground, flying in different directions. Water streaming off a wagging tail. Tongue hanging out of mouth. Best shepherd friend chasing after him. Pure joy.

Day 303: I knew people would expect a dog-costume picture, but (a) we had no costume, and (b) after we bought some cheap thing at CVS, Hilda was having NONE OF IT.

Day 315: Hilda at Snout by Snoutwest again, at another source of water.

Day 321: Oooooooo.
