Chico fixed my oven. Turns out i had the wrong pilot lit. The oven we have is the kind that also has a heater included so i lit that pilot thinking it was the oven one. I'm thinking about turning off the heat and just using that because i have a feeling it will most likely heat up the whole apartment and that will also save us some money on the gas bill. I might be wrong though. We'll see.
In celebration of my oven working, and general celebration as well because i love this time of year, I've begun my baking plans. Nothing fro scratch, or super special. Tonight i went to the grocery store and bought some of the ingredients on the toll house bag to make their yummy cookies. I had most of them already besides brown sugar and vanilla extract. in fact, i had vanilla extract from the st. Patrick's day party, but i left it across the street. My Aunt and Grammie always made these cookies when i was growing up. I always thought they were some special family recipe until my Grammie told me otherwise. Now, even though they are a toll house recipe, i can begin to bake them for my family.
While at the store I aslo bought those "just add water" muffin and bread mixes and a few tubes of crescent rolls. Tonight, I re-christened my oven with some crescent rolls. Paired with fettuccine and Alfredo with broccoli sauce. Shannon seems to love it! I just should have boiled the pasta a little longer.
Earlier tonight I watched, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. If i could give anyone some advice, it would be to watch this movie at least once in your life. It's really beautiful because it explores a major issue in social justice and relationships (family) of it's time with complete grace. I especially recommend it for young kids. Not Shannon's age, but maybe Braedon's age. Excellent for pre-teens. There are no swears, and it tells an otherwise difficult story of love and marriage in a very different way. It's funny because in the movie, the way they talk to each other, you almost can't tell if the issue is that the couple is inter-racial or that they are just moving too quickly with their relationship. It also explores how you never really know how you feel or how you will react to something, until you are actually in the situation. Please, if you get a chance, check it out.
I'm happy the election is over and done with. It was fun while it lasted, but it's just a sigh of relief to not have to think about it so much anymore.
If you can get out to Zuzu's in central sq. Cambridge this Wednesday, there will be a benefit fee to help out my friend Benny. He recently lost everything to a fire, and did not have renter's insurance (insurance is expensive for some anyway), so we are organizing to help him and his room mates out to get back on their feet. A $5 voluntary donation will be asked for at the door, but if you can't help out right now with money, maybe bring in an old sweater or something practical that you just don't need anymore. Pots and pans, spoons, a bar of soap. anything helps. Thanks!
