At shslash, we've decided we're in full support of the upcoming LiveJournal strike, so from my own journal:

LIVEJOURNAL CONTENT STRIKE.

From slyferret's journal:

Oh, suddenly it all makes sense! LiveJournal accidentally censored faeries!

For those who have not heard the latest LJ v. Fandom news, LiveJournal recently decided to implement a filter of several items on the list of popular LJ interests: items like "faeries," "bisexuality," "yaoi," "bondage," "depression," "fanfiction" and "slash." Because apparently SUP has a problem with displaying the fact that a large number of their users are into these things (although they have, as is becoming quite typical of SUP, not made any official announcements yet).

In response, amidst growing public outcry, a strike is being planned. SUP has, as of today, restored the censored interests, but between this and the recent botched handling of the removal of basic accounts (and given LJ's history of screwing us in the various sales and changes since brad left), there is a growing sense that SUP does not really remotely understand what LiveJournal is and what exactly they're fucking with.

So we're striking. They want to sacrifice product and service for ad clicks? For a day, they're not going to get them.

All of Friday, from midnight to midnight GMT (that's Thursday 8pm-8pm Eastern), don't post comments. Don't post entries. Limit your activity. This is for the good of the community, and ultimately good for you individually. You have nothing to lose.

More details here.

We all remember how quickly fandom-counts spread, and this encompasses far more than just fandom. If the strike is successful, SUP's advertisers will notice the significantly decreased traffic and feel threatened, and SUP will be forced to acknowledge the growing problem, rather than blissfully ignoring all comments and petitions. This is important, guys; let's do it together.
