Vacating my desk at school for spring

The vacating has begun! This message is to inform my audience that I am officially home most of the time from now until March 31. There will be brief and not-so-brief excursions to the supermarket, to the doctor's office for a bone density test, and to the new Nordstrom's department store to see how the beautiful people shop. That will be one of the not-so-brief ones!

I have been known to buy multiple pairs of shoes from Nordstrom's shoestore, which has been open a few years now. But this new store supposedly has many more rooms of shoes. I doubt that it will be as big as people have been saying because I've been to Nordstroms in other big cities and wasn't terribly impressed. So we will see. I'll let you know.

Dennis and I are going to a first birthday party this Sunday for the third daughter of Mary Ann Kurose, one of the English teachers from Radford. We went to her wedding on the beach and at the Sheraton and saw her and her husband at a goodbye party last summer for a couple of English teachers who were leaving Radford. That was the first time I got to talk to her husband Mike, and found out he's a cool guy. His best friend was the salesman who sold us our car. It's a small world out here in the Pacific.

Dennis has recovered from the flu he had last week. It started after a Friday night sailboat race when he got chilled. His fever gradually went up every day and he threw up and couldn't eat, but just kept on doing whatever he had to do until one morning his temperature got too high and we both agreed he should stay home. That afternoon his temperature was over 102 and he felt so weak that he called me and asked me to come home when school got out. He slept and then I got him to eat a little bit of chicken soup. He stayed home the next day and slept, so his temperature went down and he was fine the next day. He says next year he'll let me talk him into a flu shot like I got.

I have a long list of things to do during break, most of which I've been avoiding, but when I get them done, maybe I can figure out how to take some pictures and post them.
