so tonight Sasha Cohen didn't win the Gold, but she did take silver. She fell on her first two jumps which basically killed her chance at Gold, but she did have an amazing recovery and skated the rest of her program beautifully! That's what got her the Silver, she said she had no regrets and was proud, which is the best attitude. I felt bad for Irina Slutskia who wanted so badly to bring Gold back to her sick mother, she took bronze and was crying on the podium, that broke my heart! It was exciting to see Japan's Shizuka Arakawa take first! Not only had Japan not medaled in these games up until that point, but they've never won a Gold in Figure Skating, so tonight was a first for many. SHe was so excited when she saw the final scores. She did skate a great program and deserved to win, it seems to be the reoccuring theme at the games that those "picked" to win, don't.
Kimmie Meissner and Emily Hughes both did really well too. I think they're both going to be fierce competitors in 2010 and make us proud.
Tonight was a good night, but disappointing as well. I wonder if Michelle Kwan was watching, i personally admire her for withdrawing from the games, that had to be one of the hardest things she's ever done before, and she did it because she knew she wasn't going to be able to skate her best, and she had too much respect for the sport and the Games to give anything less than 100% at the Olympics. I hope she makes a full recovery soon!!
well after tomorrow and the figure skating exhibition gala, my olympics will be over...lol (well besides the closing ceremonies of course). i only really look forward to the figure skating, but i did enjoy watching the rest of the sports and even got into a few of them (uum, the Flying Tomato anyone? snowboarding never looked so cool!) Even the ariels looked amazing.
I love the Winter Games, they're by far my favorite of the two Olympics. Maybe it's because i grew up in Florida, but i just find that there's something magical about the white snow, and the beautiful mountains, and of course the elegant figure skating. All of the sports just look prettier, for lack of a better word, than the games of the Summer Olympics.
Ohhhh welll...life moves on, and so does everyone else.
