Not an EOY wrap-up

Dec 31, 2015 15:01

Christmas with my family was good, aside from several people being sick and communicable (fingers crossed that I didn't catch anything), but then the shenanigans started. My return flights were cancelled twice due to weather, and eventually I got on a train to Chicago and took a cab to O'Hare, because flights couldn't land there but apparently could depart, for reasons that rebooking agents couldn't explain to me with any success. Lucky for them that I am familiar with O'Hare's myriad disappointments.

I did get rebooked First Class, which I had never flown before until yesterday. Far more room, free booze, warm nuts, and a cheese plate! With real glasses, plates, napkins, and cutlery.

I eventually made it back to San Francisco super late last night, only to discover that the elevator in my building was down for maintenance. Picture me, sometime after midnight, hauling all of my luggage (including a 45lb suitcase) up a stairwell to the top floor. Cursing and growling with fury. Of course, I went out today to buy toilet paper and groceries, and the elevator now is in perfect working order.

I'm in my pajamas now, with some booze restocked and pantry somewhat replenished. I intend to collapse onto the couch and read Yuletide the rest of the day, for I have read none but the two gifts I received due to being in the Land of NoBarely Any Internet:
