(now i only waste it dreaming of you)

So I went to see Fall Out Boy last night at the Allstate Arena. I am exhausted and bruised, my hearing is still ferwonked, and I kind of want to do it all over again tonight because the concert experience continues to be just that awesome.

I ask you, fandom, did we know that Travis McCoy has a foot fetish?

I met up with fairestcat, sister_wolf, and seimaisin at the Chili's down the street from the venue around 1:15pm. We chatted about bands and fandom and bands and BPAL and bands for a while, then around 2:30 fairestcat and I went over to join the GA line in the parking lot outside the arena.

For the next three and a half hours, we tried to entertain ourselves by talking, flailing about Friday's episode of SGA, watching other people in line, staring up at the planes that flew directly over us in their flight paths to O'Hare, and taking bathroom breaks in the Target across the street. kalpurna helped by texting us and then sending a picture of her new piercing, then she sent us provetheworst, and right after that, we finally got into the venue.

...only to wait in line again to get wristbands for the pit. Then we finally got down to the floor! We didn't realize it at first, but we were a lot closer to the stage than we thought we were. We watched Cobra Starship (furry mpreg!) and Panic! At The Disco (pornomime!) videos on the jumbo screens while we waited for the first band to come on. At one point I turned around in the pit and said, "Holy fuck, there are a lot of people here."

Apparently the Allstate Arena has a capacity of 20,000 people. When you take out the portion of the arena that was blocked off because it was to the back of the stage and add in the pit, and Pete saying that the concert was sold out... I can totally believe there might have been that many people there. Holy fuck.

Cute Is What We Aim For was... all right. Mostly we were fascinated by the clones on stage -- apparently unrelated guitarists who looked the same and were dressed the same, and having them seem to teleport from one side of the stage to the other was a little disturbing.

The Plain White T's were really good. I hadn't heard much of their music before the concert, but I'm definitely going to check them out now. Especially as their bassist and their drummer came out wearing sweater vests. I am a fan of the sweater vest, you see.

Gym Class Heroes were so much fun -- they are a really great band to see live, you guys. Travis makes THE BEST faces at the crowd. Disashi is hot and a great guitar player and did I mention hot? Matt plays the drums with this wild grin on his face. I don't remember the exact setlist, but I know it included "Cupid's Chokehold", "The Queen and I", a cover of "Leave Before the Lights Come On" by the Arctic Monkeys. Um, maybe "Viva La White Girl"? Travis gave a long spiel (I assume he was stalling for Patrick) about his foot fetish. If you want to get on the Gym Class Heroes bus, ladies, you best have a good pedicure. Patrick came out during "Clothes Off!!" He wore a fedora, black T-shirt, jean jacket, and was hot. Um. Hot. Yes.

After Gym Class Heroes left the stage, they dropped a curtain with a Young Wild Things illustration on it to conceal the stage setup. Up on the big screens where they were showing videos with scrolling text messages at the bottom from the audience, provetheworst, fairestcat, and I managed to get "Pete Wentz is a furry. Trufax!" to show up with texting dedication.

There were normal pit shenanigans through most of this, shoving, jumping, crowding, elbows to the head.

Then Fall Out Boy came on. OMG HAHAHAHAHAHA OW. I was immediately left of the circle pit -- yes, there was an actual circle pit at this concert with actual boys -- and my right side is bruised up and down to show it. That's okay, though, because Fall Out Boy was awesome, they played a really long set, and even though the sound mixing was muddy in the center of the pit right in front of the stage, Patrick still sounded really good.

Tiny Patrick Stump in his shiny pants, man. I just don't understand how anyone can watch that kid sing live and not come away with a severe case of lust.

It was a little difficult keeping on my feet next to the circle pit, ogling Patrick Stump and Andy (shirtless for half of the concert) Hurley and watching JoeTroh and his jewfro spin and Pete climb up the riser and then go down on his back to hump his bass where we all could see (thanks for that, Pete!), watching the video they were showing in the background, and listen to the music.

During "Of All The Gin Joints In All The World", Pete came up and smooched Patrick's neck between "I used to waste my time dreaming of being alive" and "now I only waste it dreaming of you." Pete still rests his head on Patrick's shoulder during "the best way to make it through with hearts and wrists intact" from "I'm Like A Lawyer With The Way I'm Always Trying To Get You Off (Me & You)". Pete dedicated "I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy And All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me" to all the guys in the audience.

In addition to the setlist over at icecreamhdaches, FOB also played "Chicago Is So Two Years Ago", a quick cover of Kanye West's, "Hey Mama", and sang Happy Birthday to someone whose name I didn't catch. (ETA: Aha! It was Patrick's girlfriend, who is named Lisa, Elisa, or possibly Alisa.) "Golden" and "Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner" were acoustic and fantastic.

Oh! And Charlie (bodyguard Charlie of many a FriendsOrEnemies video fame) was there! And Travis came out during "The Take Over, The Break's Over".

On their last song, Pete told everyone to come down to the floor and things got a little crazy, but I was still standing during the end of "Saturday" when the confetti exploded overhead and just kept coming down.

Then we slowly shuffled out of the arena, got totally stuck in traffic (20,000 freaking people!) and ended up at IHOP with sister_wolf and seimaisin. Mm, blueberry pancakes. I finally got home around... uh, 2:40am or so?

I'm still finding confetti in my pockets. \o/ \o/ \o/

Now I think I'm going to eat something and go back to bed. Ow.

concerts, patrick stump, fall out boy
