apples!
Oh great and powerful livejournal, I ask you to bring me your delicious apple recipes! For there is a large bag of apples on the kitchen table, and I must make tasty things with them!
Recipes! Requiring apples! Do you have any? No need for the recipes to be traditional appley desserts, although I'll take those, too! I feel like experimenting. (Which is why I have a spaghetti squash in the oven with only a vague idea of what it's going to end up as when it's finished baking in 30 minutes.)
Until I moved to Chicago, it was something of a secret that I knew how to cook. Apparently, people find it hilarious and fascinating to watch me in the kitchen making soup and guacamole and tilapia and chicken fettuccine alfredo with asparagus. I suppose because it doesn't seem like a life skill I would have, if you'd only spent time with me online and at cons?
I've been cooking since I was wee, so I often take the chemistry-set approach. I measure... kind of. I substitute spices and ingredients. I ask, "I wonder what will happen if I add lemon?" (Answer: Damn, I couldn't invite Rodney over for dinner.) As far as I know, nothing has exploded.
I could make it explode if I wanted to, but I'd rather eat chicken tortilla soup than scrape it from the walls.
