Redefining History

"During the patriotic 7th inning stretch at Yankee Stadium, nature called on Bradford Campeau-Laurion. When he tried to leave his seat during the traditional singing of God Bless America, however, he says he was stopped by a NYPD officer who said he'd have to wait until the song was done." [Italics mine]

I'm not commenting on the arrest. It's possible the man was drunk and disorderly as is claimed further down in the article. What I find interesting is the insertion of the word "traditional" in front of "God Bless America".

I love baseball and have been attending games my whole life. Singing "Take me out to the Ballgame" is the seventh inning stretch tradition. "God Bless America" only reared it's ugly head in the few games I attended shortly after 9/11. I'm pleased to report that this bastardization of the seventh inning only lasted that season and every game I've been to since has been free of such drivel. Apparently New Yorkers are not so lucky as the rest of us.

Whoever wrote that article should be slapped upside the head for such a gross misrepresentation of Baseball.
