Mathew and I say the Dark Knight over the weekend.
I was disappointed. That's not to say I didn't very much like the movie. It is hands down the best summer blockbuster I've seen in a long time. But I kept waiting. And it never happened.
Things started to go wrong with Rachel's death. Which is unfortunate because the interrogation scene between Batman and the Jocker was nicely done.
The ultimate problem here is that I never for a second could believe that anyone might believe in the DA. He didn't seem particularly passionate about Rachel and his handling of her death was entirely unpersuasive. He's referred to as Gotham's "White Knight", but he never reveals any characteristics particularly in line with that designation. He never, for example, did anything I couldn't see the DA from Batman Begins doing and doing more credibly. I liked the scene between Jocker and Two Face in the hospital but had a hard time with it because Two Face's performance was so unmoving. And this is THE BIG PROBLEM with the movie. The thought that Batman is such a fool that he would sacrifice his reputation and significantly impair his ability to function effectively to preserve the reputation of an inane frat boy is a farce.
