I once came to the conclusion that more fantasy books should have agricultural revolutions; many teeter on the edge of industrial revolutions, but never handle it well, but you could have an agricultural revolution when people were still wandering around on quests with magic swords if they happened to be ingenious in the right ways, and make vital social changes without obviating the world. But it would require a lot of research, whereas everyone knows steam engines are made out of fire and represent progress. So that=interesting, but needs much research.
