2.003'rd FRAGMENT [voice+action]

Feb 10, 2011 05:00

[ It has been over a week since Aether was last seen outside... whatever happened to him during the last experiment, left ruined his interest in going outside for a while. Today, however, he can be found in the town square. Seated on a barrel and with his back pressed against the wall, he's mostly noticeable because of a pile of books in his lap. ( Read more... )

[She pretends it's no more than a theoretical question to her, which helps to keep her voice steady.]

I'd want to find the rest, like you do.

Hm...

I'm not sure if what I want is to find. The way it is right now, I would be all right even if I'd only come to understand.

This might seem too personal, but is it alright if I ask about your situation?

Ah..?

What exactly about my situation?

I don't know exactly. It's just... I don't feel like I understand enough to be able to give thoughtful advice.

. . .

[ The most logical way to answer that would be giving her a complete explanation, but Aether doesn't like the idea. Speaking so much feels like an idea that would never sit well with him. Explaining himself feels like something he was bad at even before he became like this.

Can he do it? There are thing he feels he should say in return, but they feel cryptic even to him. ]

There isn't much to explain. I am merely a wanderer without memories from a sleeping world.

They might, maybe, begin to return. Until then, can your friends tell you what happened?

Friend. Singular. There is only one living person I have encountered in those fifty six days. She is here as well.

Her memories don't go much farther.

Is there a chance you might have kept notes, or a journal, from before?

Maybe. Maybe not.

If I had kept one, I didn't hide it anywhere near where I was living.

I see. This may sound harsh, and I'm sorry if it does, but it seems in that situation, all you can do is create new memories, and let your heart guide you about whatever happened before.

[She speaks from so much experience: forgetting the past life, forgetting the truth about her friends when she was under the Dark Kingdom's control, forgetting exactly what she did to them once the spell wore off, forgetting Luceti when she went home and returned...]

Mm... that might seem like a logical conclusion.

[ Logical is the key word here. Aether, no matter how young or old he felt right now, never felt like logic was a reliable ally. Experience. Motion. Persistence. Seeking out and understanding old shapes in order to create new ones. He couldn't do something as reckless as focusing on creating new memories.

His gut feeling and pride wouldn't allow him. ]

However, it isn't the conclusion I have chosen for myself.

I think that's alright, too. If you can find another way to try, memories are too important to give up instead.
