Chapter 18 Interlude

“Hi Jun,”

The sudden voice startles Jun but he was quick to rinse the plate and put it on the rack before turning around to see the owner of the voice and reply his greeting. “Hi, Sho.”

“I thought I told you to leave the dishes there and let me do it. You should send Ken to sleep. He is still a bit upset and nervous about just now.” Sho walks closer to Jun, which the man is drying his hands with the kitchen towel before he turns completely to face him.

“I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be.” Sho is standing so close to Jun, sharing his space.

“He is asleep?”

“Yes.” Sho has a hand wrap around Jun, leaning his face close to his fiancé’s.

Jun tries to blink the nervousness away but not pulling away from Sho’s advances.

“Can I kiss you?” Sho still asks for Jun’s permission, not wanting Jun to feel forced.

“Of course.”

Jun meets him halfway, sighing into the kiss.

“Been wanting to do that so much earlier.” Sho admitted once they break apart.

Jun smiles widely, but not saying anything to answer that. Not that he needs to.

Sho looks at the glinting ring at Jun’s finger, the ring shines under the bright light. He reaches for Jun’s hand, lifting it closer to him to properly check on it. “I like this on you.” Sho comments, eyes meeting Jun’s.

Jun squeezes his hand in Sho’s, putting the other palm to cover Sho’s on his left hand. “I love it,” he says, “and I’m grateful for it.”

Sho pulls Jun to him, let Jun hides his face against his neck. Jun rests his head comfortably against Sho’s shoulder, inhaling the soothing scent of Sho.

“I remember about something that was hidden in the cupboard this afternoon.” Jun says after a few minutes.

Sho grins before pulling Jun away from him. “But before that I have a request for you.”

Jun tilts his head in question.

Sho let his knuckles run against Jun’s jaw. “Mind to tell me what’s bothering you?” Sho asked. “You know you cannot lie to me, do you?” Sho coaxes when he sees Jun blinks in confusion.

Jun stands still, taking his time to process what Sho had just asked him. He didn’t expect Sho would still remember his suspicious behaviour this afternoon and would forget quickly after the eventful dinner tonight. He himself had forgotten about it. Almost. He stays quiet for a few minutes, averting his eyes from meeting Sho’s.

“Jun?” Sho prompts softly.

Jun takes a deep breath before looking at Sho, “I had a dream this morning. Right before I woke up. The voice in the dream that awoken me actually.” He tells, his eyes casting down again to the hands holding his hips.

“What about it?” Sho asked, arms still holding Jun loosely, grounding him. He can feel Jun sags on the kitchen counter while speaking.

“That I could never live happily.” He looks at Sho. “It felt so real that I needed time to ground myself again. I thought I would see you so it would be fine but then I remembered that we won’t see each other until dinner, so I brace myself for it. I don’t want Ken to feel bothered too.”

“If it bothers you that much, why didn’t you call me?” he pauses. “I would have come. You know I wouldn’t mind.”

Jun shook his head. “I know you won’t, but I don’t want to bother you. I can’t come to you every time I felt troubled. It would be inconvenient you.”

“Since when do I care when it comes to you?”

“You never.”

“Then?”

Jun fists Sho’s biceps. “I don’t want to cling. I can’t let myself be drown so much into you. I need to be able to stand on my own. You won’t be here all the time.”

“Jun…” Sho pulls him again into his embrace. He caresses Jun’s back gently, soothingly. “I’m here.”

Jun hugs back strongly. It feels good here. He doesn’t want to let go. He hides his face at the junction of Sho’s neck.

“Do you want me to stay the night?”

Jun nods. He tells Sho about the dream but not about the weird flower. Maybe Sho didn’t need to know about it. He doesn’t want Sho to suspect him of anything.

They drink the wine to indulge themselves and as promised, Sho stays the night and this time, there’s no nightmares disturbing Jun’s sleep.
